@KBR786: Don't get ahead of yourself, not even in your wildest wet dream will they be including PSP branding into cellphones...it's a bit too much stomach.

Well this is what my wild guess is
1. DVB for mobile phone....SE will call it mobile WEGA or mobile BRAVIA hehehe...the latter seem more logic since all BRAVIA set is using LCD panel.
2. PSP for mobile phone...well don't know what SE will call them but this is a potential market. SE can come out with a trimmed down version for mobile gaming. PSP can be a challenger to Nitendo's GAMEBOY DS.....they still need something to challenge all those GB advanced...GB micro.....something which is an improvement to W550 will do....of course the first thing must be...
this device cannot be too costly compare to a mobile game console...else SE will have to suffer just like what happen to N gage.
3. Handy CAM...well SE can use all the jack knife design (w900/ s700) for handy cam....so the phone will allow function when you turn it to 90degree....which make the LCD look like what we have in handy cam (or tht cyber shot unit.....M series)
4. I do really like to see they also come out with something tht can play UMD disc.....a smartphone based device due to the size of the disc......this will make tht unit call DISCMAN!!!

After seeing a walkman phone with no camera (w950) do you think SE wont use the cybershot in any future walkman phones. Im thinking about putting of the k800 for maybe the next walkman phone with a 3mp camera.
Im sure there will be a s series update also. |

i agree with goldenface. i believe the k800 and k790 are only introductory handsets of the cybershot brand. there will be more cybershot handsets. i daresay SE is on the right track; first they revived walkman, now they're reviving cybershot. they're doing it quite effectively, too. |

Sony Ericsson wants to 'do a Walkman' with camera phones
Sony Ericsson has announced it is to produce a line of branded 'high end' camera phones.
The range will kick off with two devices, the 3G K800i and the EDGE-compatible K790, both of which will sport a 3.2 megapixel camera and carry Sony's digital camera brand, Cyber-shot.
The phones also feature other camera-centric technology including image stabiliser, red-eye reduction and BestPic, a technology that takes a series of photos as soon as the phone's autofocus button is pressed and more snaps after the user has taken a picture, in case any action shots don't quite come off first time.
Sony Ericsson also announced a tie-up with Google's Blogger service to post digital photos taken on the phone straight to an existing blog. The tie-up will enable a blog to be created automatically if the phone's user has no weblog already set up.
According to a Sony Ericsson spokesman, the phone-maker is aiming to replicate its Walkman branding success – three million devices within the line shipped last year - with the new camera range.
The spokesman said: "We needed to establish in the consumer's mind that the phone is a great place to listen to music... We looked at the same opportunity we took with music and we want to apply that to imaging."
The spokesman added Sony Ericsson is hoping consumers will now think of camera phones as genuine cameras. "There were [previously] one or two things that prevented consumers from saying 'this is really a digital still camera'," he said.
While 3.2 megapixels may be considered high end in the UK, it's way behind imaging technology in the Far East. Samsung, for example, unveiled an 8 megapixel device in late 2005.
However, Sony Ericsson's spokesman denied the device is too low-spec to be sold as an imaging device. "From the consumer's perspective, it's the best compromise [between storage and quality]," he said.

This is old news but it proves that more cyber-shot handsets should be on the way but whether they will be pitched above or below the K800i remains to be seen.
If the K800i IS a success, and there is no reason why it shouldn't be, then I can't imagine 4 more cybershot handsets all being pitched below the K800i. |

How would you design multiple Cybershot phones? Take out 3G? What else is there?
Unlike wih the Walkman phones there isn't much more that you could do to upgrade the phone, maybe better recording. I can image a slider or swivel or clamshell cybershot.
Basically I don't that there is going to be as much flexibility in different features when it come to Cybershot phones.

@shaliron
The W850 could be reworked into a cybershot handset and so could the W900i when you think about it.
It must be much cheaper to base a new model on a current design - like K750/W800i - rather than design a whole hew handset.
Optical zoom could be added. Like I said before, Sharp has it in the 903 so must be able to add it too. (I wouldn't be surprised if a Sharp 904 were to appear soon.)
Better video - like in the W900i.
More megapixels with greater digital zoom.
I am sure would have more tricks up their sleeve. |

Little doubt in my mind that anything beyond K800 is going to be a 5-ish Megapixel handset.
What I like about SE approach is that its phone first, camera second. Which you can't really say about a lot of these hihg megapixel handsets in the far east.
