I guess the Nokia Brick Image must've come from its "innovative design" of the earlier communicators

Frank Nuovo is a really good designer, the thing is - not all Nokia phones were designed by him, he designed Vertu from beginning till the end, other models were designed by Nokia's design team so we couldn't say how much exactly did Frank Nuovo work on them...

i liked the way the newer nokia phones look
nokias designs are one of the best on the market
they always stand out from the mass - they simply don't look conservative and nokia doesn't seem to be shy and try new things
this is also why they are so popular, its the same with bmw, after bmw success with the new design language(which was criticied by the hole industry) you can see clearly that other companies also started to be more creative
and btw did you know ... designworks USA - thats where BMWs design team works, is also designing nokia phones...

Hope that the new design team doesn't do what Chris Bangle did to the newer BMWs.

I was actually beginning to like the newer Nokias despite their size & weight, especially the N70 and the 6820 (or 6280? The slider with 2 meg camera)

Sony Ericsson's design heads have gone on a long leave, I havent seen a "Good" looking SE after the K700. (Did someone say K800? That's uglier than most Nokias and yes, this line has been spoken by a SE-Worshipper)
