@fatreg,well he can play around with words but spelling has never been his forte. @etaab,assuming that 8800 owners r feature ignorant, isn't that challenging their intellect?

@ fatreg - how strange, because when i put the word geniuses through Word, and check it with the dictionary and thesaurus, it comes back as both spelt correctly and grammatically correct.
Genii is also recognised, and is also considered correct. Therefore, i assume you did not realise both words could be used.
@ ayk - not sure what this thread has got to do with my forte, but its obvious you intend to turn it into a flame war - i refuse to stoop to your level.
Back to topic:
I never assumed that all 8800 owners are feature ignorant, however, the phone is aimed at that section of the market. Why else would the phone have such a high price tag, with so little features ? it does not even have expandable memory. Nokia have produced this phone for people who's style matters more than features and functionality.
Intelligence isnt measured by the type of phone you buy, rather needs and wants, personal preference and tastes. How you seem to be making that link, im not so sure..
Now heres something that might challenge your intellect - how on earth did you come to the conclusion i was challenging peoples intellect, surely its possible a highly intelligent person could be feature ignorant, style conscious and vain ?

or conversly those people that are not ignorant enough to fall for Networks marketing ploys such as MMS and mobile TV have no need for handsets other than the elegant class of the 8800.
Yes your handset may have hundred's of features but sometimes the best things in life are of minimalistic nature. The 8800 has many features: Bluetooth, MMS, Camera, Email, Large Internal Memory, Speakerphone, Tri/Quad band capability, but yet the phone is able to look so simple with smooth lines.
Stop hating on the phone because you dont think it looks nice....different strokes for different strokes.....regards JJ

It is a very nice phone though. Ive only had hold of one once, but the girl it belonged to loved it, and so did i. Shame about the finger prints and crap memory however.

I loved it, nice screen, great feel to it and very classy looking.
However it quickly became apparent to me that when i tried to send the girl a couple of mp3 files, it was pretty basic - it didnt recognise any 3gp files i sent to it and the mp3's quickly filled up the phones memory.
I class the 8800 in the same class as the V3 - a very nice phone but ultimately limited.

64mb is the most a fashion phone had up until the V3i and L7 with their extra memory capacity.
You can store alot of mp3's on it etc. Don't know why it wouldn't accept your .3gp's because it should've done.
Anyway, brilliant phone.

Most Nokia phones cannot play my 3gp files unless i encode them using the Nokia convertor.
Crappy 3gp implementation in Nokia phones you see. SE phones will play almost any.

I stick to mpegable like a nut in honey, unless i need to convert videos to work on friends Nokia phones (even their beasty N70's) i have to lower the bitrate and quality using the Nokia convertor just to get them working on their phones.
Bizarre, such nice and expensive phones, yet so stupid 3gp implementation.

@etaab, chill. 1stly i have no intention of starting any flame wars with u or any1 else. what i posted was all in good fun & didn't mean to offend u in the least. guess i should have added some smilies to make it light i suppose.
the "stoop down to your level" was kinda below the belt, but i'm gonna let that pass as i started the poking fun thing.
take it easy.

Would it be fair to say the Nokia have been surpassed by SE in recent years?
My impression is that Nokia sat at the top for a while and got a little complacent. In the meantime SE came from the middle and took the market by storm. SE are still producing top product and keeping themselves in a strong market position. Nokia, in the light of day (my thoughts remember) are struggling to maintain the game with SE, as such they have put more effort in to the "Poser Phone" market, where they can get people to pay over the odds for a phone that barely makes calls. (I mean come on, who wants to make phone calls???????;-))
SE have possibly dicided to stay clear of the market or only dabble in it. You can bet your bottom dollar that at some point they will. Who wouldn't? You can also bet that when they do it will again blow chucks on the competition. |

Huh, do you know what you are talking about, or you are just tipping for the sake of it ? Actually SE did not winn anything at 3GSM or did they ? They use to now and then but not anymore. Alcatel, Sagem, SE etc. are fairly small companies when it comes to cellphones. Motorola, Samsung and yes, NOKIA are the 'big guns' out there ! To say that Nokia is troubled by SE or any other small company for that matter, is like saying - a race horse lost a race because a fly landed on its back during the race and the extra weight slowed it down :D ! Buddy, have a look at the companie's financial figures before you make a fool of your self. Greetings from South Africa. Mario :-)

@SlipperyEel (yuk)
makes success stories phones relatively to their sales volumes. I agree with that. BUT if you compare Volumes of vs Nokia, then its something else. I myself like many of 's phones, but lately they have disappointed me really for omitting the obvious! Something Nokia was blamed for until recently.
As to 8800 the deal is clear: make a very sexy and robust phone that doesnt sacrifice too much on features, and give it a hefty price tag. It 's not a matter of fitting all possible features in it (there are other Nokia phones for that), but the most useful ones and keep margins high. The 8800 plays on its looks, mechanics, materials but also appeals to the feature-conscious believe me. There is a market for flashers who want pricey phones because its pricey, and a company would be very very stupid to overlook it, unless it cant afford it.
Yes Nokia got complacent back a few years ago. But look (I mean DO LOOK) at Nokia's product line and range of features supported (from basic GSM, to EDGE MSC11, UMA, WiFi 11g, DVB-H etc. (I didnt list 3G because I dont think its relevant ) and you will see it is unbeaten and sits very nicely on top of everyone.
