We can expect mobiles to preform BEST? I doubt it, you thinkg just because mobiles are getting better at other jobs, other devices aren't improving on the task they soley do? Digital camera's will obviously improve over time offering more features and far superior quality images, you think a phone camera will come out "BEST" over the camera at that time? I doubt it.
And for the doing the jobs we NEED, do we really need our mobiles to take 12MP images?
Also thanks for respecting my perspective

@kk
yer welcome buddy, anytime for a healthy discussion...
and about mobiles having 12mp and do people really need this techonology.. i might say YES. company offering these features do researches... and maybe they have found out that incorporating this capability to one of their device will definitely be a seller. and of course its a marketing stunt, but then again who would want to waste millions of dollars on such senseless endeavors.
just like kababayan JN said... some consumers do look out for ALL-IN-ONEs. we do have ALL-IN-ONE fax printer scanner copier... and with a fast-paced life we have, we really want it to be as mobile as possible. small, lightweight. and yet packs a whopple.
how bout you? what can satisfy your technological needs?

I couldn't agree with you on the part of them selling phones, they will sell... but do we need 12mp in a mobile phone? I have to say, not really. 3MP is fine, not really necessary, but it's not OTT.
As for my technological needs, For music I have a 5th gen iPod (aka iPod video) for taking pictures I use a Sony T3 camera and a T7 is in the post (both black) and for movies I have a PSP. Personally, I don't really need an all in one mobile phone, an I guess there are other who feel the same.
@ JN Yeah I put it up for sale, I'm keeping my personal one, will never sell that, but i always have a few spare 6310i knocking about, lol i want a Nokia 8801, so just rasing some funds from stuff I got laying around.

@ JN, I think i have about 5/6 6310i's around here somewhere and plenty of others, selling them as I find them! I like the look of the 8801 pretty much a 6310i in a nicer body, so i'm going for one of those.
And yes the 8801 only has a SVGA camera, a whole 1/2MP!

well then i couldnt agree more... good for you... you got all corners covered. but then again, its too early to judge a 12mp feature on a camphone.
we can never tell what others can incorporate on that other than boasting its lens capabilities... well infact they were also noted to have the need for a very powerful processor to do that... you know what at first i am not that impress with these phones showing off... but as time goes by, i am feeling that theyve been filling gaps to some of my tech needs.
well, practice makes perfect... i think theyve started on the right foot. and about your PSP, dont you use em for games? its a playstation portable right? i used play alot of games on my PSP... nice to use it as a portable video player... 2 works in one device.. kewl isnt it? and boi you haf 5th gen ipod (aka ipod video), ipod is doin great with it.. at first they were only music players... now you watch videos with it... i hope you see my point... you prolly hate mobiles doin other sorts of stuff besides making calls... but you go figure out buddy, your using the same technological perspective these phones are having... anyway im not taunting you by the way... its for discussion's sake.. more power dude!!!
@JN, umm Manila ka di ba? hehehe

@rockygali, if you understand something about photography youŽll realize 12mp is a overkill even for normal digital cameras, unless youŽre a pro
Its just stupid

i perfectly understand that... at first, man said its impossible to reach the moon. hehehe...
12mp is not yet a done deal.. there will be drawbacks.. indeed, but im not saying that 12mp is good for phones... its just that, im open to options... and possibilities, if they can make it 12, then ill be damn.. 7mp is just a blast...
im just admiring their outlook towards endless possiblities, and 12mp is like hitting the moon... i dont even know if there such device having the same capabilities... yes its an overkill, and what happens if they make it... were all be dead... who knows.

Our 'work' SLR is 12 megapixels, but it's usually switched to 6MP and that's good enough for printing at 300dpi (unless we're doing a full page shot).
I can see no reason for this on a phone, or probably even a 'consumer' digital camera as it brings with it a series of other issues (speed, storage space, time taken to transfer - and will we be getting RAW mode on a camera phone soon, so pics can be 40-50MB each?!). You also need decent optics, which are hard to fit in a phone (who wants one of those Samsung's that's a digital camera with a phone rather than the way around).
I can see why a company like Nokia (or indeed Samsung) would produce one as a 'proof of concept' but that's more for the reputation of the company than seriously expecting to sell any. (Take 7700, N91, N92 and the first 3G phone as examples - although it seems the N91 is coming out for some crazy reason!).

Hi,
Personally i think its mad to have a 12MP camera, the reason they are doing it is because people are idiots and think that with a 12MP picture its going to be aof a better quallity, which to a certain extent is true, but to a more truthful extent just means the picture taken is physicaly bigger. 12mp would be like the size of a bill board!!!! I think the phone companys should research cameras which take a higher quality picture, not a bigger one. After all, who wants a pic, thats the size of a bill board, but is blurrys round the edges!!! I would much prefer a crystal clear 2-3 MP shot, for fun snap shots, and a flash for taking pics in the pub!
