Texas Instruments the leading maker of chips that run mobile phones, said it has developed a more powerful processor which would will allow users to take 12-megapixel photos with just a one-second delay between shots, the kind of performance usually reserved for expensive digital single-lens reflex cameras.
The company says the new technology will improve the quality of phone camcorders and let users download high-quality movies to their phones for replay on a TV.

I know these will be OUT a couple of years from now . . . AS we do normal counting it will STILL be 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, etc. 'after' the now present from a 2 MP camfone . . .

People who buy these phone will obviously want to take half decent pictures... If they want to do that why don't they just buy a camera. I'm sorry I just don't see the point in it.

@kk - Some folks want an ALL-IN-ONE gadget mate! That's why many prefer getting the Treo 650 PDA type of fones over anything else, even combined . . . But as for me, I would rather have a low-end fone and 5-8 MP Digicam than one of those 12 MP camfones (in the future) . . .

Yeah and me, I mean i've had most phones, treo 650 and p910i... also k750i etc, and I guess they're great for average things, but if you've got the money to spend on one of them, why not just go all out and buy a proper organiser/camera?
To me a phone like my 6310i (which i now use 2 of everyday) is perfect, for taking pictures, sending email, playing games etc. I have other devices which actually do a good job of it. No doubt it's impressive to see phone's doing this, but it's not as good as the proper thing.
But yeah, it's a good achievement all the same, I love to see technological advancements, even if I tend not to agree with them, i still seemed to be impressed.

Think you miss understood mate, I said that my 6310i is perfect.... and that for pictures etc. I have other devices.
But having such great camera in phone is great news, even if I don't quite see the point.

@kk - Thanks for explaining mate . . . Yup, separate device for fone and camera for me . . . the good thing about having a camfone is that you can instantly send the image (MMS) thru your friends and relatives abroad - hassle FREE! Specially if you don't have a laptop or PC at home . . .

A 12mp on a phone thats overkill. IMO 2-3MP is enough for me.

Yeah I guess that's a good point, but sending a 12MP image to them.... hmm.
Even sending regular pics, the novelty just wears off.
But i'm sure these phones will sell, there's plenty of show off's out there...

well IMO, technological advancements such as these are quite impressive... since these phones want to be a fullfledged camcorder/player.. its quite fascinating to see that right.. and indeed theyve been making good leaps.
and yes there are specific gadgets to perform the best for specific jobs like taking pix, record videos and play music... and again technology made it possible for these features to be become available into one device... clearly we will see major improvements in not so distant time that we can accept mobile phones to perform best on every technological job we need. and i respect everyones perspective with regard to this... for me, its really awkward to see someone talking over a camcorder aite?
cheers yall!
