my ir device won't work to? i took it back to maplin and they said it works, i take it home istall the software again and it still won't recive? so it isn't the phone because i can send stuff to other phones via ir so what should i do?

You don't really have to get a cable if you can borrow one. Or if you can do away with those email addresses, then you can use the SIM backup option.

yeah i say its the device but maplin say its working? but i installed it on my machine again and it don't work? could it be my virus software or something thats interfrring with it?

its a IrXpress USB-IrDA Convertor, yes, and iam running on xp

Read in the above device Mobile Action nokia 8310 it works OS windows XP, tried really everyting (I think)

No, you haven't. You still have to try the master reset.

master reset deletes eveything does it not?

Yes, a master reset deletes your non-factory data. That is why it only becomes an option when you've tried everything else and the next option in line is to send it back to a service point.

I ordered a datacable (I can use it at work) so I'm going to backup the phone, and do a master reset (how do I do this, is is in the manual) I hope it 'll work 'cause the other problem I have is a soft Speaker (even with the volume set on max and no not the ringtone volume) maybe it 'll cure that to (I also put in a new speaker)

Well, my datacable arrived yesterday and I did a total reset on my phone (after a serious backup of cource) and 1 problem I think is cured. I got volume again in my speaker now lets see if the infrared is working OK.

Try to reinstall the operating system, i guess it's the only option you have.
