Should I get the N70 or W800 |

What is with this N70 crap... I am sorry... I just does not like the notion that N70 is just a 6680 with a different sheet metal... Well, okay, it has larger internal memory. By the way, it does not use Symbian 9.1. It uses 8.1.
Good battery life? Come on... Both phones uses 900 mAh battery (BL-5C and BST-37), now one with a humongous (spell?) screen, and one with small screen, which one logically has better battery life?
I hate this N70 brick because mobile-review compares P990 with this brick and said that the brick is gorgeous... Oh yeah... Not saying that the P990 itself is not a brick, but come on, Nokia... Gorgeous... In one sentence? I prefer Siemens compared to the blockia.
I have had enough of software glitches with Nokia, especially N-Gage and 6600 (both are my old, untrusty, unruly, huge, crappy phones, which I gladly pawn it for US$100, rather than just throwing it on the garbage bin)
Sorry, I really am... It is just that I had very bad memories of Nokia phones. Okay back to topic...
As with many Symbian phones, the main must have factor of the phone is in its expandability software wise. I just read handango.com last month and stumbles upon WMA player. The programmer said that WMA format actually sounded better on 64 Kbps than other formats. With that small audio compression, the file size must be smaller too, so you can fit more songs on the card. And 3G, but that is about it. Battery life, doubt it...
W800 on the other hand has a proven battery life, proven sound quality, and proven camera quality. |

what is pathetic is not the N70; which by the way uses Symbian OS 8.1 (6680 uses 8.0a).
Then he mentions his issues with 2.5+year old phones NGage not even the Ngage QD. The 6600 is seriously old, and doesnt offer much. My 6620 is by far a better phone than the 6600 even though all are based on Symbian OS 7.1 (Both Ngages & 6600/6620).
The N70 has the ability to use the QD's 1080mAh battery (BL-6C) that the QD uses. Which battery life is more comparable to the K750i/W800i. Yet most SE fans overlook this just like their options for other manufacturers. Competition is KING.
Besides it isnt the battery in the K750i that gives it its longevity in usuage but its core power consumption is miserly. A great benefit.
There are some that like smartphones; which SE gives only 1 choice of, and most that dont. The thread starter has already mentioned that he wouldnt be using apps for general use, so it eliminates the N70 from his choices.
Dont knock a users preference for their choice of phones; after all its their choice. Theme for posting is their way of asking for user experience - for both sides - and advice; usually not asking for one sided.
Many months ago SE fans wanted the usuage of MMS/SMS user choosable ringtones, also for using MP3 ringtones and more java games. 2 of these choices came in the K700 >>very late compared to other manufacturers, and the last important one was the SMS/MMS user choosable alert. How do you all think MP3 Walkman came along? SE didnt pull it out of their ass from thin air. They look at how many sales the competition was doing and how so many users clamored over lack of usability & UI. They went to how their famous Walkman brand and began implementing it. They also look at how their Walkman brand was loosing in sales to the Apple iPod and started the GUI for their Walkman phones to simplify it.
Competition my friend ensures everyone better choices. |

@mr miyagi - Don't you think that you'll be getting the same 'fate' (same with the K750i then) when you decided to choose on the W8 mate For a change, get the Nokia if I were you dude. Good luck !

JN your right could get the same fate. However if the phone I get had the original filmware, which seems to be the best one and it seems like everyone wishes they had the original filmware and it works well enough. Then it may be best to get the w800. So then its highly unlikely to have the same fate as the k750i.
I'l see when the time comes though to get the phone. |

N70 screen physical size is 40% bigger than W800. Watching video/photo on the N70 is much better than the smallish W800 screen.
N70 is much more elegance and better looking than the toyish orangy W800. N70 battery life is 3-4 days on moderate usage
Video recording (MPEG4) on the N70 is much better than the W800.
Music playback sound thru the headset is excellent.
Photo quality can match W800 in daylight and certainly better than W800 in low light.
In addition, N70 has 3G, EDGE, PTT, QuickOffice & pdf reader, much better and more advanced PIM, non-crippled phone-book with unlimited entries and multi-characters search, full-web browser, independent voice dialing, lifeblog, true multi-tasking, USB2.0 high speed data transfer, cheaper memory card with 1Gb now available at US$59 and unlimited functionality expansion by installing add-on software.
And the N70 are flying off the shelves. Some shops are reporting that new stock just cannot keep up with sales.
And best of all N70 smartphone can be had at around the same price as W800. It would be irrational not to get N70 unless you have an irrational attraction towards W800.

I would rate music between very good and awesome using the headset. Using speakers, I would rate it as very good.
Video recording, I would rate it as excellent (and many times better than W800) with smooth framerate and very good colour reproduction.
For photo, I would rate it at between 90-100% of what W800 can do (i.e. very good).
And N70 feels small. The phone on most part is only 18mm thick (which is thinner than W800 20mm all-around). It is only where the camera is located, the thickness max out at 23mm.

ohy Mib, why am i not surprised.
Anyway's, let me clear this up -
Sound Quality, N70 sound good on normal headphones through the 3.5mm audio adapter. However it won't produce good results on Hi-Fi. It produces good results on the inluded headset as well, but i find it of poor quality, LOW VOLUME!
About camera, W800i has a better one.
But video capture? N70 has a better one.
Comes to apps, symbian and all, N70 is of course the winner here with tons of apps available. Like Wma players, trackers and all.
Though, apps TO SOME EXTENT and quality are available on W800i's j2me as well, but of course Symbians are much advanced and all.
So if apps/3g/video capture isn't your main concern - There is absolutely NO REASON to get the N70. Comes with crap batter life, and 64mb Rs-Dv-MMC when compared with 2 gig du pro not to mention w800 is cheaper, comes with 512mb and an audio adapter to blast your Hi-Fi speakers away and to connect your regular headphones although Sony already supplies it with excellent quality ones.
