Should I get the N70 or W800 |

Hi everyone
I shall be getting either one of these phones n70 or w800 in december. I am trying to think what would be the best one to go for. The w800 intrests me, since it is small and got all the functions that I do need. However one thing I am wondering about if all the bugs that it had in the original filmware been sorted out or fixed. What is the battery life on that phone.
The N70 is a good phone too, however then I am thinking the only difference is that it has 3g, which I will never use, and its a bit wider than the w800. I have had the k750 before, it was a great phone however I had it exchanged 6 times within the 1st week because of problems then I just cancelled the contract.
So I am hoping not to have a repeat performance with the w800 or N70.
So what do peopple suggest and why??
Thanks

The W800i everytime. The N70 is a decent phone, but it can't live up to the standards of the W800i.
The w800i has a few improvements over the K750i, the main one being the more reliable firmware. I've had my W800i 2 months now and have not once had a lockup or crash.
You said you wouldn't use 3G facilities on the N70, but if you take that away from this phone then it is not that great.
Battery life on the W800i is really good. A lot better than what I was expecting. I can happily listen to mp3's for a good 5 hours solid and still have plenty of battery left to leave the phone on standby for a couple of days. Also the bugs that you refer to are few and far between. People have mensioned issues with bluetooth, but I have sent several 3mb+ files without having any problems at all.
Go into any phone shop at the moment and you will find that the W800i is difficult to get hold of, because the demand for it is just too high.
Seriously, you will only want to exchange the N70 if you buy it. Go for the W800i.

I am lucky enough to have both these handsets and swap and change between then at will. The W800 is far better in terms of camera and music functionality, but the N70 is better in terms of all round performance and customisability and upgrade (in the sense that there's more app's available, full internet access etc...). I suppose the big question is, do you need to use it for the additional app's/office capabilities? Or does your lifestyle push you more towards the entertainment side of things? :-)

thx for reply jordan, 2 months thats good then, does your phone have the latest filmware then? Yeah your maybe right, i probably would end up trading the n70 back. I think best thing would be to maybe try both phones in the shop. |

Good idea. Giving the both a try will let you compare most of the features. My brother has a N70 and I'm glad I went for the W800i.
I have the standard firmware which came with the phone (R1L0002) which according to most of the software related posts on this forum, is better than the latest available firmware on the Sony Ericsson Update Services website (R1NA035 - i think?).
If you read through most of the posts regarding firmware upgrades, most people say that they wish they had stuck to the default (R1L..) firmware. |

well in reply to your post love. I'd say its more of the entertainment side I am looking for in a phone. i wouldn't really be intrested in getting lots of applications for my phone installed. OK think id be going for the w800. So you have the default filmware jordan. Most likely I am going to have the latest filmware. I'l be gettin it free on orange the phone. Is the latest filmware really bad? That people are wishing they had the old filmware?

When you buy the W800i, the firmware will be R1L0002, which is the default firmware. The only way you can get the latest (which is worse that the default firmware) is by downloading it from the Sony Ericsson update Service (SEUS).
Most people who download the latest firmware do it because they want to see what improvements are made. But according to what I've read, camera quality is worse, problems with memory stick corruption, mp3 equalizer makes mp3 quality hissy.. etc.
So you wont have to worry about all that when you get the phone - just don't update your firmware until they release a more stable one! |

Yeah everyone gets the samestandard firmware version when they first buy their phone. The K750i (even now) still comes with the same firmware version that it did when it was first released. |

That depends, I just bought an extra K750 for my kid yesterday, and it came with R1N035 which is latest firmware for K750.
Like my own K750 it has none of the bugs that others experience. |

How can the n70 dont come near the w800i.The w800i is dope compared with the n70.The n70 has good battery life, symbian technology, you can watch movies, play symbian 3d games, its symbian os 9.1 (latest version),it has all the music formats, stereo sound and more.A smartphone is always better than a normal phone.

So if the W800i is dope, why is the current best selling mobile phone on the market?
Call us biased, but nobody on this forum is going to even consider pointing anyone looking for new a phone in the direction of Nokia, or should i say BLOCKIA. |

Jordan does have a point there, nokialover. How come the w800 is the best selling phone on the market and the n70 isn't ?? |

Oh really?
Well from what SE offers early next year is the p990i of which the recently announced N80 can hold its own on.
W800i wins against the N70 as the memory card standard is depressing = DV RSMMC. Skip the N70 but next years its either the W900i,P990i and the N80 if you like sliders. |
