"Tougher market conditions"? They can't even analyze the problem correctly...
A 97% drop in revenue is not the general trend, it's SE specific and we know why.
If SE sticks to current design team and management there's definitely no hope for them.
SE designs still the beautiful in the markets, but SE recycles phones every year with no improves.
W902 with DSP chip would be masterpiece
Miles Flint was warned in person time and time again of the lack of "flaggable"-ship devices. he didn't listen.
no matter what, it'll take another 6 months to have drastic changes, and 18months for the market to feel the shock, good or bad.
yes, flint has stepped down last year, but komiyama is still tidying up the mess he made.

Yes, it's the silver one. It looks very very much like W890.

I agree! And considering that Dick has in charge of Vaio from sony before, I still have hope for SE. For now, the only thing for me worth buying is the C905 and X1, or maybe G900(for being cheap UIQ) and C902(fashion Cybershot), other than those most the other phones are recycled old stuff.

Yeah! Looks 100% like W890. But the back is white.

I don't have a problem with the way SE phones look, my objection is to the way they perform.
What disturbs me is the rumors that the X1 fw will supposedly be stable not before Feb. 2009 but will be released Dec. 2008. Can SE really afford another P990 fiasco?

hey so mizz when tigershark or i say SE is headed down the wrong path, you tell us to take it elsewhere and then say we have too high expectations to be relevant in the realworld...
not only does this sit in my craw, but the fact that you say "take it elsewhere" what the hell am i supposed to say back to you when you BRING it in here (linking to eldars post (shameless) plug for your site) but if ELDAR says something it means MORE than when spectators can CLEARLY see without having the inside information that the company is trying their hardest to become irrelevant.
we have been saying this all along since the specs for paris the n95 killer (in all reality it is ... just FAR FAR too late) that SE is having a hard time looking ahead, instead of looking next to them. 97% drop in revenue is proof AGAIN that they are nice themselves out of business, this way and theyll follow moto out of this arena.
they need someone that has direction has a goal (achievable) and respects the competition and consumers. both of which SE has been taking for granted since 2006.
YOU MIZZLE ARE BIASED!
even if there is some invisible hierarchy involved with this internet blog circle dont continue to be condescending to those on this board expressing themselves about the expectations set forth in the RUMORS for 2008 thread.
the level of arrogance is akin to that of SE, its so blinding to you, you cant even humble yourself to the boundaries you yourself set.
regardless of this, i think SE needs to just stop, think about what companies would think a natural progression would be for next year, then produce a product that is yet again a year ahead >> and ready to release 1H 2009. Scrap the old platform research new tech, and find ways of implementation. too hard, too bad. too expensive, well its not like what they are doing now is helping their funds.
i would think as an investor ... whats that mizz you own stock too, good! that makes us brothers in shares. that the answers lie in a NEW fresh approach. focusing on the low end has brought them to the brink of obsolescence ... just like the phones, its ashame but you dont create buzz and you dont expand your brand by pandering to those niches that wont spread your name.
person 1: what phone is that?
person 2: oh, i dont know (tmo, att) gave it to me for free when i renewed my contract.
person 1: oh, it looks cute ...
person 3: hey nice phone
person 4: yea, its the new SE X1 its got x,x,x,x,x, and this cool panel system
person 3: it can do all that, does SE make other phones like that?
person 4: no, they didnt even make this one ... HTC did.
person 5: wow is that your new phone who makes it?
person 6: SE its great isnt it, just as youd expect from a partnership with sony, you get the top of the line for you money, bravia, cybershot, and walkman all here in my pocket, it really outshines HTC/Apple/Nokia in so many ways.
person 5: really, it must cost a fortune, huh?
person 6: yea, but i have an ipod, celly, pmp all in one and it cost less than all 3 would.
person 5: what if i dont need all those things?
person 6: well, they make 4 models
- BRAVIA/CS/WM
- B/CS
- B/WM
- CS/WM
choose what you want, they also make individual branded phones as well!
this is probably how id structure my strongest tier for a business model with in the corporation ... sadly, i dont run SE ... yet. |

First of all, that post was utterly unnecessary, and completely wrong, btw. Get your facts together next time you try to "diss" someone, will ya?
Second of all, your business plan would make SE fall behind faster than it is falling right now, if possible.
Third, this is way off-topic, and still not the appropriate place to discuss this.
It did make me giggle though. Can't believe you actually took the time to write that.

Agree, 110% of the way - I still back Komiyama to do something at SEMC/(J).

I just hope SE gets out of this situation...
Otherwise, I'd be forced to buy an ugly Nokia, a boring Samsung or a crappy LG in the future.

@my ninja, it's not like SE produces the cheapest phones around. You can get a dual SIM, 2.8" touchscreen, 2 MP camera phone for quite a cheap price nowadays - and they work. SE can only be successful in the low/med segment for a limited time and that is by using it's name and reputation obtained way back in the P900 era. Eventually people are going to realize that the cost of an SE device is just not worth it. There's a magic number: (features+looks+brand name)/cost, well, SE's magic number is getting smaller and smaller every day and this is not good.

Well to be fair, all I did was state 'this is what Ive heard from souce x and source y' and then give a short comment on the matter 'I dont think the market will be too fond of this'.
If we were to go into it (straying from the topic) I would have to mostly agree with MyNinja. But we cant pull solutions to such problems out of a hat as we dont have the experience of running a huge multi-national corporation.
Also, there must be a good reason why, say, WM/CS isnt made. If that sort of thing was intended, dont you think Sony would have made a WM/CS product by now? They could, because theyre Sony, and Sony is huge and knows all about it, but they dont. For some reason Sony themselves keep the two product lines seperate. So SE is not at the heart of this problem.
Also, its clear the problem is strategic and not technological. SE Japan flexes SE's true muscles, and proves beyond all doubt that SE is perfectly capable of producing handsets with specs to smash any Nokia you could come up with. But they dont elsewhere...at least not yet. I wish they would, and Id love to at least know why they dont implement at least some of the technical expertise, not because I cant accept the difference in technological pace/development between Japan and the rest of the world, but because a 97% drop in profits tells me they are failing and need to do something about it.
I apologize for this off topic post. But let me say that I hope all Ive mentioned in this rant will be rectified in some way by SE sooner rather than later, and I hope we will grow to see this dip in SE's success as a cause for reinvention of the brand rather than the beginning of the end. |
