@AYA
There do seem to be quite a few people who post almost if not exclusively in the regional forums. Has this always been the case?
I think you are quite correct though, there must be something else preventing the majority of members from being active. I would suggets that it is probably a case of members not always being interested enough in mobiles to actually become active in the community, rather they are just looking for information.

@Scots: Yes, I know a few who never venture (to post) outside of their regional thread. And yes, the point about those seeking just info is smack bang on. On my reg thread, there are those with no interest in phones, but who just want to enjoy some social interactions.

I suspect it's probably the other way around. people coming here specifically for onfo on their mobile phones have a lot of stuff to read. Most of them do seem to read. then ask the questions. Those questions get answered and the talk continues. All this on mobile phones.
Strange enough this whole discussion is being led by people who are predominant in the non-mobiles section, ie not the 'core business' of the site in the first place.
Not wishing to 'degrade' the non-mobile sections in any way, but to me, and presumably to many who came here for phones info, it's not the main thing and it's not what esato is about.
And funny enough the mobiles part seems to have seen little change, other than a few more unfamiliar faces, a few more questions (some of them similar to other questions) and a few more suggestions to search the site.
It's really pretty much the same, like a cricular movement for every phone that is released and probably not worth getting excited about.
On another trail of thought: I wish this self-invented distinctuion between 'veterans' and 'newbies' would just go away.

@Vlammetje
I prefer the term 'established member' myself.
You raise an interesting point. Esato seems to have developed a very strong community, one that seems to have created such discussions as this. If Esato were just about mobile phones then I very much doubt whether there would be discussions like this one.
Perhaps Esato has evolved into more than the sum of its parts and this has led to the creation of those who do not post about mobile phones a great deal, if at all.

I would agree with that, but "veterans" and "newbies" goes on in every online forum, so it wont go away in a hurry. |

There seems to be several terms in use on Esato, some of which I created for my history, but never intended for general usage.

Is that because you fall into that category?
That particular term was intended for purely academic reasons!
Who coined the term 'Old Guard'? What is the difference between the 'Old Guard' and veterans?

The "old guard" are the ones who oppress the new members.

I think 'opress' is a rather strong term to use, and a tad uncalled for. I just don't see this 'opression' that you speak of.

id be interested in seeing some of the oppressive thread could you post some links as i dont see a lot of this myself but its easy to miss stuff as there are times when this place has hundreds of active thread.
as i said earlier i think 99% of the time people get along and dont even notice if someone is new old or whatever.
but meths you must have seen some stuff that has made you take up this strong view point so if you could show us some, it may help me to see were your coming from cheers |

I would be interested in seeing an example of this 'oppressive behaviour' too. I agree with slattery69; as far as I can see, most people, for the most part, do get along very well indeed.
