I was at the London press launch this morning & chatted to some of the S-E folk about the P910 & played with it.
Main reason for having the keyboard is email-compatibility. S-E made a big song & dance about ability to use Email Software from RIM, Visto etc.
For the corporate market, I'd say the main pitch is "don't buy your staff a phone + Blackberry, buy them a P910 instead".
Also note the difference between corporate market and "enthusiast" / "prosumer" segment. Corporate buyers don't care about cameras & in some cases want to ban them (wouldn't surprise me to see camera-free Symbian phones in future).
Also, if you're a corporate buyer, you want each device to have a useful lifespan of 2-3 years, with no software tweaks so all the ones you buy over the period behave in the same way. |

Well the good thing is the MPx, P910 and XDA 3 all come out about the same time. So I will test them all and make a choice then to which boat I will jump to.
At present the XDA is looking at the best! |

i sold my P900 just 2 days ago, and i don't think i'm going back to the P series.
when i spend SGD680 on a K700, i might still be inclined to think of it as a rich man's toy. but when i pay DOUBLE that for a P900 (and then some), i expect some kind of return on my investment, sorry, depreciating silicon-metal-glass sandwich.
i can live with 128MB of memory, a VGA camera and 16-bit colour. but i can't accept the lack of Wireless LAN, the 400k*bits* per second fake-USB interface, and the relatively poor application support anymore.
why?
correct me if i'm wrong, but was the P series ever meant to be a camcorder, a Game Boy Advance SP and an MP3 player rolled into one handy unit?
this is a wireless information device. this is a BUSINESS device. i expect it to keep me up to date with what my business and my clients and my competitors are doing, anywhere, at any time.
if i want MP3s, i buy an iPod. if i want a camcorder, i get a Handycam. but i won't be buying any of those soon if my P900/P910 can't help me bring home the bacon. why? because i spend more time getting my P900 in order to do the work i needed to do than actually getting that work done.
i don't care if the P910 has a 10MP camera, a 1.2GHz processor and built-in 5.1 surround speakers if it can't make my business life easier. and while they continue to muck around with useless additions like screen brightness adjustment, i don't think it will be anytime soon.
which is why i'm switching to something else.
sorry, SE. close, but no cigar.

I can finally put my Memory Stick DUO Pros to good use in something other them my Sony Cams. I'll be first in line for one of these puppies. There seems to be a lot of members with virgin P900 who might be a bit hesitant about having to purchase the P910. I say just do it. I can already smell the threads of members complaining for a free 'upgrade' .. Get it in your heads now that business is business and you'll just have to shell out the bux to get the better phone.
Since the release of the P910 is scheduled for Q3 I guess I don't mind replacing my now 10 month old P900. It's been a long ride. With the increased memory capabilities that means a lot of developers will have to tweak their software being that they were optimized for a 128mb structure.

yawn - have done a nokia.
have spent all this time developing improved strorage, more colours and quirky (not qwerty) keyboard/pad?!?
Will P900 users actually fork out and buy it? I don't think so (unless they are rich)
This should have been their 3G version of the P9.

er..in the UK we only have one 3G network and it does nor support high speed data, Oh yes and Vodafone - but they only provide 3G data and only 50% coverage. Who would SE sell their 3G Pxxx to?
@Bigfeat
I'm with you man on this one. More RAM, more external memory - will mean we will have TomTom navigation finally for UIQ! |

sure its a business but business sense suggests that a company improves their device properly and keep their target audience happy not just slightly tweak it and piss them off?
They put no effort in to design or features i am contemplating jumping on to the XDA ship. |

Wonder if it will have our scandinavian "إن and ِ" characters at the flip? If not, then it's justthat blokia communicator that has it...

Its a free world - and competition is good. SE and others would not produce such wonderful devices if there were no competition. The P910 is aimed at the US market really and the real flagship SE smartphone will appear in a few months. Remember they need the Christmas sales! |
