bought on Wednesday a P900 in Luxembourg (759€) and tried it on my new BMW M3...

bad news, doesn't work again...

it's a bit better as it was with my P800, but still a far cry from how it works so great with the T610

it can get incoming calls (but the car won't ring, only the phone itself), it can only do outgoing calls with the mobile (it will display "call transferred to headset" and the BMW will take over), but you cannot initiate a call with the BMW itself, and SMS & phonebook are not supported.

Also I noticed it doesn't autopair again despite setting the option not to ask again once it was paired successfully

So I hope Sony Ericsson will implement the same bluetooth headset instruction set into the P900 & P800 as it did with the T610, which works brilliantly with the BMW BT kit. This is simply ridiculous! I need to buy a cheap mobile from the same brand because their top-model cannot do what a cheap one can without any problem, go figure!

Otherwise, P900 is a nice phone, don't like the colour schemes too much (outlined fonts make it sometimes hard to read), P800 was colourwise better, but all the rest, the P900 beats the P800.

I have the same problem (with P800 and my new P900) and the BMW BT Kit.
It is because the P800/900 don't have the "handsfree" profil (the T610 have this profil and the BMW BT kit works fine with it).
I don't understand why SE has not upgraded the P900 with this profil and I hope this upgrade in a future firmware ....

actually they have a carkit profile, but with the T610 it can be actived by software (just a few clicks in the menus), while with the P800/P900 this profile is automatically enabled when the phone senses the carkit hardware (guess, Sony Ericsson carkit, sensing the antenna connector)

If it ain't SE carkit, well, it won't go into carkit mode

I wonder if the phone detects a charger and a headset, it might think it is in a car (who knows, sounds logical to me, so worth a try!). Will buy this car-adapter for charging and see what the phone says.

Handheld profile is the standard one
Handsfree profile can be enabled by plugging in the headphones
Headset profile is when BT detects a headset, but since ordinary headsets don't have displays and no keyboard, it's normal it won't do SMS, call initiation nor addressbook

So this leaves us with the famous Carkit profile, it IS there since some options refer to 'car' (eg: "control panel/display/power/light(car)")

Same problem here, I've bought the p900 in Germany for 610 €, but the only thing i get in my Bmw X5 is bluetooth Pairing - Yhen Pairing succeeded and then again bluetooth pairing...

Tomorrow I'll go to my car electronics dealer, he seems to know how to do it, he've toldme he can do work a p800 with an x5 with build in bluetooth kit...

I'll let you know, if that doesn't work, I'll call SE; when the phone is officially in Belgium!

Someone knows when the update service will be online, I saw a lot of versions higher than mine, some on the web even had a higher buetooth firmware!!!

Yet again another unfinished product from Sony Ericsson. I wrote about this to them and they responded with what you guys correctly described as the lack of a handsfree bluetooth profile.
The P900 (and before it the P800) is the flagship product of Sony Ericsson. They ought to be ashamed for putting an incomplete product out on the market, especially after having a year to learn from feedback they got on the P800.
And for those contemplating a response along the lines of "not everyone has a BMW bluetooth carkit" the point is the phone lacks features that are standard on lesser Sony Ericsson models!
