3 days of very intense usage, 13.2 mb free RAM and no even sign of strange behaviour or restart for better performance. Before I would already restarted it myself a day or sometimes even two days ago because of low RAM (lol). I am very pleased (the new fw + new version of smp/level 3 of memory reclaimed).

You will end up precisly with 12-13mb if you use swiss manager pro, no matter what you do during the day...i use almost all the phone functions everyday. Of course, you have to quit unused apps from the memory

Ares, you said that you were using level 3 memory reclaim with SM, however, that is not an option for everyone. I have the SIM lock activated so that if the SIM card is changed I need to enter the phone PIN, just a security measure against loosing the the phone. In this case, you can only use level 2 in SM. After about 2 days I'm left with around 9.5 MB RAM. More or less the memory settles around 6-7 MB over a longer time, memory reclaim didn't help either. However, the applications were running smoothly.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

You've got it mixed up... The thing you shouldn't use with level 3 activated is Inactivity lock, the thing that locks your phone when you leave it idle. I just tried changing SIM in my phone after doing level 3 reclaim a couple of times during the day. The 'bad' thing level 3 does is to stop 'SecurityApp', and I think that's only used for the inactivity lock (someone said so in another thread). You have to shut off the phone to change SIM, so if it has something to do with the SIM change phone lock, it gets started again anyway...

Good point, so many threads I must have missed that. I will switch to level 3 and see what happens. SM does not auto-start so there shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.

Yes its true...using level 3 is not for everyone. Even so, its much better than before. By the way, yesterday i managed to open 3 java apps at same time, and with media player and sm pro also on background... the phone was left with almost no RAM, acording to SM Pro, and even so the phone didnīt crash, and the apps werenīt terminated by the system...then i close them all and was left with 12,1mb. I was suprised with this because java apps eat RAM like mad

It is a wise man who admits that his phone needs a 3rd party app just to function as advertised.
As for java running like a dog on p990... Don't make me laugh... how amateur that SE actually can't get the code right on devices that are supposed to be light years ahead of phones like the N80 and even dare I say it the lame Samsungs... Which I might add work flawlessly with j2me v2...
what a joke!

I assume Level 3 is only available for registered users of SM not in teh free version. besides I like the inactivity lock. |

Well, the truth is that the joke is you
1 - If you read my early posts about the new firmware, you will see the new firmware alows people to multitask withou many problems also WITHOUT Smpro...but because SM Pro is so good, and have so many features, BESIDES improvede memory management - File explorer, shortcuts, clock, etc, people use it alot. Do you have something against that???
2 - Nobody said java runs BAD on UIQ 3 devices, the stuff you seem to be smoking is making you see things. Java eats much more memory than apps writen on Symbian native language, its A FACT, be it a SE device, a Nokia, or whatever you want.
Has i said before, youīre just hopeless, and seem to love to being flamed

Once again the phone reset itself after I tried to answer an incoming call - I only reset the thing 2 days ago!!!
It never used to do it with the R4 firmware!
Is there anywhere official that I can post a problem firmware report to SE?
Thanks

I can't remember if this was the case before R9 or not, but I am certainly having a problem now. It is as follows:
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I can't seem to figure things out. On my P990i, whenever I receive a MMS with a picture, the picture is only received with maximum dimensions of either 120 pixels wide or 120 pixels high. For instance, if someone sends a 320 X 240 image, I will only receive it at like 120 X 90. I have no restrictions set for "Download size" and I've tried using other phones on the same network (T-Mobile USA), and they receive the images at the resolution they were sent at.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? If anyone can help me out, please offer any suggestions. Thanks. |

I wrote this earlier in the thread, but had no response!
My flash light doesn't work when I activate it on the camera. It does work when I test it using the service menus.
Has anyone had this problem and is there a fix?
Many thanks.
By the way, the firmware upgrade has made the phone much better, but there is still room for improvement! |
