vista sucks! end of. i know that it runs ALOT faster than xp on dual core systems, simply because xp can't handle dual cores and only uses one of them... as for us guys with computers that only barely touch the vista requirements, it sucks! my comp's spec is:
* athlon xp 2500+ @ 1826(i think!)mhz
* 512 ram (ddr) @ 333mhz
* 128 ddr gfx (nvidia geforce 5700) - it's a bleedin brilliant card for me! i only ordered a crappy one and they didn't have any of them left although was still showing up as did on the web - at the time this card was well over 150quid and the one i ordered was about 20! i was well happy!
* dvd writer all the normal stuff...although i still have a normal cd writer there aswell.
* sound card! lol
* a crap motherboard - syntaxusa sv400...it's crap!
and well anything else i've left out is kinda bottom-grade vista stuff.
I installed vista ultimate, which i acquired from a well known source (not pcworld!). It actually ran faster than my xp install had been at that time! After that I switched to linux for a few weeks and then went back to xp because of school work and stuff - all in all, xp is much faster - my desktop is this:
and it seems that it's that wide because i have my tele as second display...although it doesn't actually work properly :S i have an old tele, ok?!?
anyway, all in all - i want a mac...just my computer is a crappy old sse processor and it'd mean emulating sse2+3 processes which it wouldn't be too good at!
any chance anyone knows anywhere to get a set of mac os x powerpc cds / a dvd from? (other than the apple store )
basically...running xp now, my computer totally rocks - does anything i want to throw at it atm...i WOULD buy a mac, just i don't have the money...or the time to learn the little niggles to use it...i know they're easier than old macs!

@kahmeelo
Do you run an early beta edition of Windows Vista?

It's just that the early betas had that kind of start button, not the Start Orb.

Erm, what you on about???
My XP has been using duel core fine for the past 2 years.....there's even an official AMD application called dual core optimizer.
It uses both cores fine, even shows the dual core processor activities for each core.
Vista uses the cores *better* yes, but don't know where you got your info from!

I feel the same way too, I really like Macs, because they are faster, and they look great. But the problem is that in my country they are too expensive, comparing to US, or Germany... I wanted to buy a Mac, but I didn't want to spent that much money on it. If I can't have a Mac i can at least have the look , so I modded my PC to look like Mac OS X Tiger, and I enjoy it like that. First I did it with Flyakite OS X, but it slows my PC a bit, so I decided to change everything myself. I changed the name of the Rcycle Bin into Trash by canging some files in regedit, used Icon Convertor, Icon Tweaker, Logon Studio, BootSkin, Styler, Style XP, RKLauncher, FindeXer, Mac finder, Mozilla Mac skins....and since then I have a Mac look! I've also tried Leopard look, with the new dock and everything, but I like Tiger more.
Some of my modds:
and this is my Humble PC:
