"Net income before taxes is estimated to be about break-even."

And because they f****d up with their smartphones. Gooood jooobb...

I think you overestimate how much of SonyEricsson's business is from smart phones.

Thats right. The smartphones represent only a tiny part of a small sector.

Yes but one smart phone brings revenue equivalent to 5-6 low/mid end devices.

I think that we, new and old SE supporters, must have a word from the Company!!!!
Something that elucidates what's going to be the near future...

Hi all

Sorry but so much of that interview is just the same old usual SE BS. Especially this question and answer IMO.

"Richard: So what will happen to UIQ Technology?

Ulf: We will continue to ship UIQ phones for quite some time and Motorola has publicly said it will do the same. So nothing will be stopping immediately. Over time of course we will be moving to the Symbian Foundation platform. This means that UIQ Technology will need to find a new place in the ecosystem. We are currently talking to Motorola and the management of UIQ Technology and exploring different options to find the best role UIQ Technology can play.

The Symbian Foundation will help drive convergent phones even further into the mass market. This will certainly create a demand for skilled people throughout the value chain. UIQ Technology is a really strong group of these skilled people. So there will certainly be a role for UIQ Technology, but finding exactly the right role will take some time."

Oh yes of course i see especially with this

"UIQ Technology is a really strong group of these skilled people."

So strong that they just sacked what was it two thirds of them on announcement of the Foundation, so much for a commitment to UIQ or any chance of anything new coming. Plus of course SE were one of the driving forces in this move for the Symbian foundation i bet it was all there idea no really it was honest.

When you add to that what they are saying about profit and market share for this year it really isn't a pretty picture is it?

IMO a total lack of innovation and drive and just rehashing old products in new cases has really started to hurt SE. They have really lost the high ground they once held and what brought them more users.

It is very obvious by both the number of complaint threads and firmware woe threads that SE's innovation and quality have both gone for a walk. Until they manage to return to what made them once great they are destined to struggle where there are now IMO.

What's more with their attitude it's where they deserve to be and it serves them right. They really should of realised they can't bite the hand that feeds them and take liberties with their users as otherwise this is what happens. All but the most faithful users have gone elsewhere and it is far easier to lose them then to get them back.

Marc

It would be a waste of time for anyone to come up with a new UIQ now, but of course, they may be nearly at the finishing stages of one, we dont know that.

That is exactly for what I am hoping.

??? They just had TWO devices at finishing stages and canceled them!!! Paris was in developement for over a year.
So what are you hoping for?
That they also have another one in another room? It's a bit crazy man.
"Nothing will stop immediately" from the article above means things go slowly DOWN, not UP,
and a new Pseries would be in fact a big thing, which is not hinted by anyone.

Are you serious? Almost all phones are in development for over a year. Thats nothing different to the normal for any company. And yes they do have other high spec phones being developed in other rooms. They develop several different phones at a time to be tested and only a select few make it to the market. Just because we knew about Paris didn't mean it was sure to be released. Like Mizzle and a few others have outlined recently, we know a lot more than we should know and that's why we become disappointed. I think you need to calm down, you're one of the most aggravated members in this thread along with bavlondon2. Keep calm, its not the end of the world, its the start of a new thing.

Ok, so you don't believe that sometimes somebody essentialy fails? But that happen.
Of course I know that they always work on many more solutions. But I also know nothing soon will come.
I'm also aware the new thing comes with the "Foundation".
But it doesn't mean it's better or even good. It can be just civilized way to get rid of financial loss. You have to agree that they just lost it!
The most idiotic part is to believe that SE will really just pay 1500$ for using Symbian, when Nokia buys the rest of it for 260 millions.
IMO these last days facts give very simple conclusions...

Maybe some of your points hold some truth, and I agree that SE hasn't had the best run lately and they have a lot of sorting out to do, but you're acting like its the end for Sony Ericsson, which it quite obviously isn't. I believe this Symbian Foundation will cause a rough patch for many manufacturers, not just Sony Ericsson, so I think some of us need to calm ourselves a bit. They're a big company, I'm sure their collective brains can come up with a solution.

Yeah, nobody doubts SE in general. Just the smartphones division.
What makes some of us angry is just wasted and degenerated possibilities, starting from visionary P800 to the death of UiQ today.
And the problem is: I don't see any other 100% suitable device, like SE/UIQ did suit me for years.
If I'd see it, I would not bother commenting this poor situation.

Im just a lil' frustrated by the way in which SE seems to be offering great solutions for EVERY last bit of the market except smartphones. I feel somewhat left out by this and dont want to be left waiting. But something will come along Im sure.

"Another leap is about to be taken on a new Walkman phone. No details are available at the moment, but it is expected to have a monster 16GB of memory and what is rumoured to be a large touch-screen format."

If thats true, or if its STILL true, then thats got to be the one we saw at Javaone. Hell yes.

That was an interesting read there ares! thanks.

It pretty much confirms that SE will release a brand new touch screen walkman,
most likely similar to the one shown at the java one conferance. For this I am very happy and it means that despite all this talk of SE being dead, the company will have the best camera phone, one of the best business phones and probably the best touch screen music phone on the market. And all probably out by the end of the year.
