I am pretty sure that everybody saying that they should keep there P1i/G900 phones for 2 more years is foolish. Of course SE will continue releasing UIQ devices as Nokia will continue releasing S60 phones.
Some people really have trouble with comprehension... What part of "the new platform will be backwards compatible with S60" don't you understand? Not UIQ, just S60.
SE may release a low/mid end UIQ3 device but I doubt even that, all SE will release is plenty of toy phones. UIQ is dead. End of story.
I do hope that SE release a Symbian version of X1, that would fill the gap until the new foundation is ready. |

Not trying to cause any arguments or anything, but I'm glad. Sony Ericsson just couldn't do a PlayStation phone in the way that Sony could. It would likely fail to deliver like a few of the latest Cyber-shot and Walkman phones.

Why not? Seriously, we know SE can't produce another decent UIQ3 phone so this is the best option available. It's not my favorite form factor but given the circumstances I'll settle for it.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

@makbil
Well, I was also wondering what to do soon with my phone's exchange. And I think I won't stay long with P990 since I need an upgrade with HSDPA or Flash.
P1 does not have it. Although, it has a decent RAM and many advantages. And it's soooo cheap now. But it has one cruical mistake: lack of search in Contacts.
But, I think I'd jump to HTC camp maybe, since TyTn II is available and TouchPro will be soon. I was also considering E90 but lack of touch is horrible.
Anyway, there's indeed a question:
If makers plan to launch first unified Symbian device in 2 years from now, what about the 2 years gap? They can't stop releasing Symbian phones.
But they also canceled Paris... I have no clue. |

I think that the black/orange phone is P10. It does look better than the previous prototypes but I thought orange was specifically for Walkmans though.
When is the Walkman announcement coming? Any pics available (no cancelled phones please)? Are going to keep the weather widget that we saw on Alicia?
Some time back PK said that there would be a number of devices with the Beibei scroll wheel, do you still stick with that PK?
A lot of people are still shocked by this Symbian Foundation thing. With input from everyone, the OS will be better. No reason not to buy UIQ now, no reason to go to WM. People who use WM after using a P1 will be horrified. |

I agree, I very much doubt that SE will release anymore UIQ phones. However, IMHO the OSE-phones (are they called features phones) are far from toy phones. The high ends got most of what people want and need (in 95% of the case much more than what they use) and they're usually MUCH faster than UIQ phones.
I think that the meeting schedule at SE headquarters are quite busy right now, what to keep, what to throw away?

Is a replacement for the P1 due soon?
According to the following phone shop:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/14957.htm
"Limited stocks available, this product is soon to be discontinued."
I really hope they don't think the replacements are the G700 and G900 |

Just an observation; PK (and others 'in the know') has been awfully quiet the last (couple of) week(s)... |

PK is probobly listening to music on a new Walkman W960 replacement proto, touring the World and taking shots with his C905 while e-mailing and messaging with his P10. He doesn't have time for Esato, keeps him busy and I bet he loves it.
To the testers out there; if you get a proto and you don't like the buttons for example, would change the buttons because you say so? Do you have any input into the phone's design or do you test the retail ready products? |
