I have a bad feeling about it too. IMO, it would be amazing if they announced UIQ4 tomorrow. Think about it, that is exactly what is NEEDED to surpass or at least contend with what is already available on the market today. But doubtful.

It's about the status of UIQ and the licensee plans." -Eomer

Not long now, I would not want to see Uiq go but if they can only manage what they have done so far which is rehashes then its for the best. I can't see Se being a proper mobile phone company if they only end up using other peoples software.
If they don't announce a newer uiq then the question has to be asked, what have they been doing for the last two years?
Nothing? |

They cant have taken that long to make UIQ3.3, because its only slightly different. They have been developing UIQ4 because we have seen images/concept ideas of it shown at a conference a while ago now. I would say its not impossible that theyve been secretly cooking up the latest software platform all this time. This theory is supported by indications that that 'secretive' moto device operates on 'UIQ 4 at least' (BGR). The only thing that goes against this arguement is the fact that no UIQ3.3 devices have even been announced, let alone arrived on the market. |

yep! the screen looks like 2.4 and the colour of it remind me the "Magnetic Grey" of W380.
Do you know when it will announced? |

So if Paris gets a new processor is everyone here is going to be happy? Is that all thats needed?
In my opinion, no. Here's something to ponder over: if SE came out with a N95 with touch screen and a keyboard, it would be their flag ship. Well, that's how far behind SE is, they need to work hard to stay in the game.
I think most people would be happy with that providing it has an improved look and is finger friendly. |

With respect to the comment about UIQ 3.3 devices, if you look at what's been released in the past we have this list from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/[....]s_to_utilize_platform_versions
List of UIQ 3.x Phones and its Version
------------------------------------------
The following is a list of the smartphones that have been announced/confirmed as running the newer UIQ 3.x platform.
PDA-style design (similar to a handheld computer)
* Sony Ericsson P1/Sony Ericsson P1i/P1c (UIQ 3.0)
* Sony Ericsson M600/Sony Ericsson M600i/M608 (UIQ 3.0)
* Sony Ericsson P990/Sony Ericsson P990i/P990c (UIQ 3.0)
* Sony Ericsson W950/Sony Ericsson W950i/W950c (UIQ 3.0)
* Sony Ericsson W960/Sony Ericsson W960i/W960c (UIQ 3.0)
Hybrid PDA/Phone design (Normal phone with Touchscreen Display)
* Sony Ericsson G700 (UIQ 3.0)
* Sony Ericsson G702 (UIQ 3.3)
* Sony Ericsson G900 (UIQ 3.0)
Slider design
* Motorola RIZR Z8/Motorola Nahpohos Z8 (UIQ 3.1)
* Motorola RIZR Z10 (UIQ 3.2)
* Sony Ericsson Codenamed: 'Paris' (UIQ 3.3)
So while the Wiki needs updating with respect to Paris and Beibei, you can see that seem pretty much stuck on UIQ 3.0 for the phones that are available today.
UIQ 3.1 and 3.2 seem to be enhancements for Motorola phones.
UIQ 3.3 was planned for Paris by all accounts but seeing as this has been cancelled, then why not skip UIQ 3.3 completely and go straight to UIQ 4?
Most of have been complaining of minor updates, small changes to the interface and nothing groundbreaking, so perhaps have woken up, realised they can't buy time with another stop gap and it's full steam ahead? |

I hope so. I really hope this is the storm PK used to tell us about. That would be stunning. |
