Its just another P1 but with a smaller screen. Ok so the cam is slightly updated but even then its the same old hardware and OS. But that should sell well as SE can only sell these "old" phones at cheaper prices now so they should maybe sell more of them.

Bav,
Ive gotta disagree with you. Of course there was alot of reason for Paris and Beibei to come out. If they bring UIQ3.3, then they will fill in all the gaps previously found in UIQ devices. They will have full web browsing with Opera 9.5, integrated flash lite 3 in web browser (full web browsing capable, pretty much), as Im led to believe by rumour (also, if you had Opera 9.5, why wouldnt you have integrated flash lite), widgets, WLAN 802.11g, a QWERTY keyboard would remain, and a 5mpx camera would be included with touch focus and a lens cover. Add to that the snazzy new UIQ UI theyre using now, including the better media player, camera UI, X-pict-story etc, a sharp looking hardware design and formfactor, not too large to be bulky. You dont think that would be a winner? I think it would sell like hot cakes once they got the ball rolling. And those are the improvements we have heard about. No mention of what may be a better processor, better screen, so forth. The average consumer will see all it does, see that its compact and looks good, see that its touchscreen, new and modern, and has all the makings of a true smartphone to compete with WM. Everyone whose used to UIQ now would buy one, at least. People would have something better to opt for than N*kias latest N-series handset. It would sell loads. Theres no way anyone can say it doesnt sound high end, and theres no way anyone can say its a good thing for it to be cancelled, because this is exactly what SE needs, and this is the one thing all us fanboys have been complaining about not having for so long. |

No one knows the facts for sure. Well actually im sure some do but they just cant say. But there is no smoke without fire and its not like Eomer is renown for shit rumors. On the contrary you should take his word as gospel.
Im guessing it must have been old hardware underneath UIQ 3.3 which wasnt allowing it to run to its full potential.

Is there any whisper of a High end 'T Series' handset to replace the ageing T650i?
Sony Alpha.

Guys, got a response from 'my source'
I asked whether the P model(s) have been cancelled?
The only answer i got was "The P series will continue"
No more info has been given to me, no news on whats been cancelled if anything! and no news on when the announcement of the next P will be.
Make of that what you will, but P series lovers - Its not over

its a bit too soon to assume that a particular phone model would be canceled.
IMO, SE wants to settle in the UIQ devices to rival Nokia's N-series device. Currently, SE's UIQ devices are at a disadvantage of having very few softwares available for such a platform. But with more UIQ device on the market - more software developers would be enticed to develop a software for UIQ phones. The "smartphone for the masses" theme for G900/G700 is clearly indicative of such intention. So we could expect a lot more of touch screen phone in the future running on UIQ software, not just the P5 and beibei.
furthermore, millions of dollars are spent by SE in UIQ platform, i don't think they would be so eager to just forget about it. |

Thats not really asking if Paris was cancelled though was it?
1 phone and a whole range are 2 different things. If SE discontinue the P range then they would have no UIQ high end phones so of course thats not going to happen. Not yet anyway.

This is something they have never managed to do. Im sure they are capable but I doubt it will ever happen as they dont get funded by operators like in JP so they cant bring out the top notch phones.

The P-series aren't exactly tied into UIQ is it? Maybe suddenly it will come a P20 with WM? |

At the end of the day assuming it has been cancelled would you not rather SE come back with something that can actually stand up to Nokia on most fronts rather than just simply being laughed of. I know I would. Its not becasue of nothing that SE have dropped down to no3 over the years so they need to pull their finger out and sort it.
C905 is the start hopefully.

That would be even worse imo. They cant even get the x1 done with all these snazzy graphics they promised so do you really want plain WM? If so your better of with HTC.

What is Paris though?
There are mixed reports about older hardware and not being too impressive, then we know other people (PK) who seem to know more about a device that may or not be Paris.
Like others have said, if this is just a codename then who cares if Paris is dead as there will be another codename around the corner.
Frankly the photos that we've seen of a Paris like device, seem to be a good form factor so what upgrades are we really talking about?
New CPU? More/faster memory? Better onboard graphics?
On the one hand if it's a faster CPU that can be a drop in replacement, then sure it's not going to add much more time and we'll all benefit from it.
If though it requires a new system board, I/O chips, etc... then the delays could mount up.
Ultimately a more competitive product will be launced (we hope), it's just frustrating that it's been over a year since the P1i announcement and several years since the P990, so it just looks like are falling behind. |
