why do you need to let it die?
also, you dont need full battery to update firmware..it just says to make sure you have battery for the update...so it wont go off while updating.

Btw, no 038 here yet on western europe (or central, dont remember - holland)

Duran it seemns we have the same region...please when you can get your update post it here... I do the same if i can update to the 038

Got my battery down to 9% by turning the radio on and leaving it playing. Hopefully it'll die very shortly then I can charge it up and update it!!

Updated today to R1DA038 (K850i O2 UK version) and can also see some improvements on the BT part.

Now my K850i perfectly synchronizes (contacts and call list) with my BT car kit.

From what i understand, the following K850 firmware is currently ava for R1DA038

Branded phones
02 - Western Europe
VF - VFLive
T-M - T-Mobile Int
TIm - Telecom Italia

There may be more network branded ones. so if any one can update with theres i will then add to list.

Unbranded phones co far
HK Region
Possible Western Europe.

If any one can confirm

Thanks

I have an unbranded phone with Western Europe R1CA037.
I just tried SEUS with United States English and it goes through all of the motions like it found an update and installs it but when I go back to check the version, it is still R1CA037.
Should I pick a different county in SEUS?
I do live in the US.

Umm... iunno if I'm right on this, but doing this kills your lithium-based batteries... letting it die is seriously not recommended for these... I've checked out a lot of sources on the internet and most if not all mention not to let lithium (eg. Li-ion, Li-Poly) batteries go dead before recharging them. Some sites say to do this once in a while for batteries that need calibration though.

I always thought that you should let them die occasionally? In the same way that you should charge them for at least 12 hours when you first get them then repeat this every so often?

Yeah I just made an edit to my post, I kept on reading and it says "occasionally" you should let it die to reset its "memory". Perhaps you shouldn't do it too often though!

It doesnt make any difference on which country you pick. All the updates go thorugh one main server.

I would try again soon, Mine didnt show anything and went through all the motions, the the next day it looked like the samething was happening. This time the phone updated with the new firmware. Very strange indeed.

I would think that they are starting to put the new firmware on slowly

More on the camera stuff:

The light sensor may actually be a proximity sensor as well, to guage how much power the flash goes off with... try taking a pic of a close object (ie. ~4cm) and it will go off with much less light than a far-away subject. Perhaps dust may have gotten into the sensors of those who are experiencing dark photos, and thus fooling the sensor into thinking you are taking a shot of something close-up. Blow some air into it with a can or yourself and see how it goes.

Tried taking a few indoor shots earlier and I noticed that when pressing the focus button half way, the focus screen gets much brighter slowly over a period of 10 seconds or so, I dont think mine was was doing this earlier , mmmm

For more natural looking indoor shots in semi light Im finding that turning the flash off seem to work best, flash makes the room look like very washed out daylight. I guess thats better for portrait .

Does anybody know when the new firmware will be avaliable for 3UK? Im still on 29 and my phone is buggy and slow. I would ask 3UK themselves but theres a very good chance they wont understand the question and an even bigger chance theyll just not have a clue about anything at all

Im on Orange UK and still no update (lazy Orange Bast'rds) as I need this for my Bluetooth watch. Same issue as the carkit not downloading contacts list and caller ID but to my watch. HOPEFULLY XS++ etc will support jp8 soon so I can kill this Orange Branding and manually update without being goverened by what Orange want on my phone - for free .
