Whats the weather like in september/october in Sabah and Sarawak?
I am going over for a 3 weeks holiday from 24.9.05 til 16.10.05 and was hoping it was not going to be too wet.
Also one more question about Ramadan. Will it affect tourists much when eating during daylight. I am not wanting to offend anyone. But i dont want to starve myself all day as i am a big eater.
Sorry if this seems off topic but its the best place i thought i would get an answer.
Regards

Well, its bloody hot here right now, and there is a bad haze. I live on the Malaysian peninsular, but I guess its the same in Sabah and Sarawak.
Regarding your question about Ramadan, well I'm not a Muslim and you don't see me starving during Ramadan. I'm a rather big guy... To answer your question, no you won't starve, the non-Muslim shops are still open and you can eat there.
In fact, in the evenings, just before the Muslims break their fast, there are plenty of stalls that sell all kinds of delicious Malay food... well over here on the peninsular anyway
Cheers dude, and enjoy your stay in Malaysia

Its normally the monsoon or wet season in Sabah beginning of Oct till Jan. However the weather patterns haf been a little cuckoo of late and the rainy spell may start as early as end Sept. This only affects Sabah. Sarawak is expected to be a little wet during this time but not as bad as in Sabah. You shud plan your time to visit Sabah first and Sarawak after that to take opportunity of the weather patterns. Depending on the nature of your visit, most of the places of interest (theme nature) can be visited during these time with the exception of scaling Mt Kinabalu (tallest peak in SEA). If u r targeting to climb Mt Kinabalu the best time wud be between May/June. Island hopping is not an issue as there are plenty of well sheltered coves to entire most divers. Check out Sipadan....its absolutely wonderful!!! I'm in sabah 2 weeks each mth so gimme a buzz if u need more info mate!!
During the mth of Ramadan when the muslim community fasts, it is still ok to eat....i am assuming u will be consuming in restaurants etc where there are plenty of other ppl as well as tourists. We are a bunch of friendly ppl and we do understand that u will need to eat. Your sensitivity to this issue is honourable and much appreciated.
Cheers

@sanjeevjaya and shithappens
Thanks for the info.
I was in peninsular May 2005 and had a great time, at the time shithappens gave me some suggestions http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=58232
I missed out on borneo so i am back this year but now i am working so i can only get 3 weeks off work to visit.
My plans are at the minute,
Semenggoh Wildlife Rehab Centre,
Bako National Park,
perhaps a homestay long house village,
Gunung Mulu National Park,
Diving in Labuan and Pulau Sipadan,
Sungai Kinabatangan,
and maybe some rafting.
I might have the time for it all, not sure, but i will go along and try and do as much as i can fit in to the 3 weeks.
Cant wait to get out and taste the food again,
OWEN
