welcome to malaysia mate.....

i gather u'll be spending some time in penang aka the pearl of the orient....public transportation namely via train or outstation buses are easily available...u might want to start from top to bottom (north to south)....places of interest:

1. Cameron Highlands (buses available from georgetown) which is in the state of pahang.....the BOH tea plantation is an excellent place to visit among others in the highlands

2. Kuala Lumpur aka lumpaland...the capital of malaysia which the petronas towers reside and the main shopping area within the golden triangle...there are some nice temples/mosques to visit as well as the shops/stalls along petaling street and chinatown

3. Historical city of melaka...A Farmosa is a must to visit plus a host other baba-nyonya places of interests

4. If u r into eco travel, the Kenyir lake in pahang as well as numerous beaches along the east cost of peninsular malaysia is excellent visit spots this time of the year....that and an eco tour of Taman Negara, one of the oldest natural tropical rainforests in the world

since u r in georgetown, do drop by the various info desk in the local hotels, they have programs that will effectively help u plan your tour around malaysia (peninsular) and the MAS (local airlines) can help if u r planning to extend your visit over to Sabah/Sarawak which is also excellent for eco tours....South East Asia's tallest peak is in Sabah, namely Mount Kinabalu...the sunrise is truly scenic.....my recommendation wud be to fly Air Asia, its a no frills carrier and u can actually save some $$$ for other more important stuff like food.....malaysia's very well known for its culinary delights........

lemme know if u need anything else mate...and enjoy your stay....

u cud also try checking for more travel information on these few sites:

1. Malaysia Tourism

2. Lonely Planet: Malaysia

3. Official Tourism Site - Malaysia

Celebrate with Malaysians during this event-filled month as a multitude of activities, exhibitions and events showcase the best that Malaysians has to offer, from arts to culture, sports and more. The best place to join in the festivities would be the glittering parade in Kuala Lumpur as a cast thousands start off celebrations that include dance and music performances as well as food festivals and cultural exhibitions throughout the country.

The Colours of Malaysia celebrates are a great time to be in the country and a wonderful opportunity to experience the many facets of Malaysian culture, craft and cuisine.

If u do drop by, u might also wanna consider looking into Perak Caves which houses a very unique chinese temple. Ipoh is situated in the state of Perak which is just south of Penang. It wud make a nice stopover enroute to Cameron Highlangs or Kuala Lumpur. Further down south wud be Melaka. Ipoh is also famous for its food.
