I really hope the new firmware improves battery life, if only a small amount. Right now Im charging the phone every day! battery runs out so fast. Not the end of the world though, since I have a charger at home and one in my car and it charges very quick, still annoying.

The service is not down, it's overloaded! You see, this site someone found is for selected people only to try before the final release. Now more people than it has capacity for is trying to access it. This might by the way delay the final introduction date.

Perhaps because they've only done so the past couple of hours and have yet to SEE the improvements? Not everybody is in a situation to play with their phones all day long on a thursday. Have some patience, give them some time.

I guess no one is telling only because it hasn't gone final yet.
So there could be some more improvements on the final version of the first update. =)

Looks like it might be possible to de-brand a phone using this online update

Found this on another forum: (for those of you with branded K700i's)

======================================
You can update (and debrand) the software from a branded k700i
you need a unbranded one and put it on the station (dss-20/25)
then the server checks if an update is avaiable and starts downloading it!

While downloading you change the phones on the station and the software (AVR and ARM) will be updated on the k700!

Not the way i would personally go if it were my phone, disconnected it and reconnecting another one just might cause an error and abort or worse

Some folks here certainly sound deperate enough to do this. If I had a phone that had some of the functionality disabled by the operators I would definitely consider it...... just a thought....

For those with an interest....the phone I upgraded is not one of my prototypes, but a production unit purchased directly from Sony/Ericsson at the DevShop. I only flashed it late last night and it takes about 20-30 minutes on a broadband connection. I used the "25" cradle from my P900 to do this. You cannot use an early cradle from the P800 to flash your phone..it must be the "20" or "25"..look underneath the cradle for the model number before purchasing and remember that you could buy the wrong one if it has a round Sony/Ericsson emblem on the front..as opposed to the "25" which uses a large rectangular LED.

I cannot answer any questions about it because I haven't even made a call on it yet..its morning here in Alabama...and I can't really offer any insights into its operation until I've used it for at least a day or so...

Just keep trying...and hold your nose just right...maybe it will "link-up" for you.. My only suggestion is that I performed my upgrade without the SIM in the phone....

I tried the service. My phone is not operator branded. Bought it straight from the SE dealer

I received this message

'Your device is not permitted to use this service'

Your operator does not approve the usage of this service for this device

what should I do????

I never get passed the "Please wait... Checking the installation of Sony Ericsson Update Service" screen on the web. Someone else that managed that?

Also, is it ok if only the "driver" for DSS-25 is installed, or do I have to install some other software too (like mobile phone manager)?

It seems to work, cos some german guys here tried it!
