@sitnet Thanks but why there are external GPS accessories for Non-GPS phones if it can be enabled on the phone itself?

I am not totally sure, but normal gps protocall is free, a-gps uses gsm which is usually very expensive. Remember gsm means normal internet costs, and gps uses a lot of data.

@sitnet Thanks again dear for the info
It means GPS is not a hardware (chip-part). Is it?

As I understand it, gps is a part yes (gps module) but assisted gps (a-gps) doesn't need a gps module because it uses the normal gsm receiver all phones with internet has built in. So normal gps would be impossible to add, but a-gps is a possibility.

oh now i got it mate! many thanks for clearing me.
Most of the handsets have got A-GPS like C905, C702 etc. So it can also be enabled on K850i as well.

aside from bug fixes and performance improvements, will there be any major improvements / changes with the new firmware? |

major changes? i dont think so.
If they even give us the new firmware (i dont think so too, because SE clearly sad they wont work on A2v1), It will be more faster...I hope faster.
With minimized music, writing sms was imposible

no update still now..
by the way how can SE provide us a GPS with a firmware update? Is it possible? Isn't it a hardware part?

A-gps uses normal gsm protocal to receive data, so it is possible, but still unlikely.
No A-GPS means that the gps is assisted, the phone still needs gps, and it doesn't cost to use either, from my lg Renoir it is completely free! |

A-GPS = Assisted GPS, speeds the process to get a location lock, same for the new Enhanced GPS = E-GPS, you still need GPS hardware. |

So is it practically impossible to enable GPS on K850i by a software update?

You can't add GPS just via software. It is hardware too. We will see what this software update actually means hopefully later this week.

I think to all my fellow k850 owner friends that we are not going to be seeing a new update to this phone. However the latest update that we already have is stable enough though I know its sad but I think we need to just accept it now. But long live the k850 its an amazing phone and its a phone I will continue to use until the it finally dies on me.
lets all remember the goodtimes of this phone, have a look at what we all love about the k850 thread :
