I highly doubt theres a new firmware coming, i think that consultant was bluffing, to be honest, but if its true and there actualy is a new fw coming i doubt it will be R1FA037 since thats just a branded firmware, maybe R1GA or something like that, who knows,im pretty sure SE are done with the K850 though.

Hard to believe that a new fw is coming.

Hi! [...]
So, I wrote a lot but to conclude: What are tips and tricks to prevent k850i to restart it self? Take out M2,turn off accelerometer, delete everything from phones memory, maybe restart it manually here an there.... And what else is there....!?
Based on my personal experience with this phone, which I own for one year and two months now, the only thing that really helps having a stable phone is to restart it from time to time and especially after intensive usage (Java, PictureDJ, VideoDJ, filming or taking lots of pictures).
Taking out the memory card, be it M2 or microSD, doesn't change a thing (for me, at least). Keeping the files number low DOES help, though.
The accelerometer can't be turned off. When you choose "portrait" or "landscape" in Media, what you actually do is stop using the accelerometer, not disabling it. Test: choose portrait or landscape instead of auto-rotate, exit to stand-by screen, enter the service menu (> * < < * < *), choose "Service tests", then "Accelerometer". There you go - updated readings as you move the phone around, which means that the accelerometer is active.
Master reset clears the phone memory and performs a quick "reinstall". Any user content (agenda, SMS, e-mail, pictures, installed applications, bookmarks and so on) will be deleted. It's a nice way to thoroughly "clean-up" your phone, much like reinstalling Windows on your PC. The phone should perform better once a master reset - reset all is performed.

Thanks for your advice! I also noticed that turn off-and on every few days helps alot!!! Today I filmed about 20 pictures and 2-3 videos (3-4min each), so i experienced that in video mode when filming indicator of remaining time is flickering (0,5-1 per sec). And also in photo-camera mode, when going to settings, going through menu, when changing it is also flickering. So I turn it off-on and everything is ok. If i didn't restart it, I beelive that it would restart it self (without my help)... In matter off accelerometer I know it is active, but like you said - it is not used in multimedia menu, picture mode etc, so I belive if it is less used,it is better!
About M2 card - I also thing that it does not influence on stability - but just in case it is out. And for sure it drains battery if my ring tones are on it, so when someone calls me - it drains more power. And even in standby it uses 1mA. So, my M2 is in my wallet, not in phone. And if needed, in 20 sec or less I can put it in phone and take a lot of pictures, videos, listen music... I don't need do that all time, every day. And in phone I have 35 mb of free space. Enough for 25 photos at once. But my battery now lasts for 4 days (normal use). Till know I did not have more restarts or BROD. Last was on 12.3. so for now it's ok! I'm happy. Then i send it to service center and they put in new fw and some script (!?),...so it's ok. Now I don't touch anything inside with a2uploader..."do not fix if it is not broken"...hehe

You' re welcome, but you have nothing to thank me for, you pretty much figured out yourself what to do to have a more stable K850. I was only confirming your tips and commenting them a bit.
Another good point you made - menu flickering in camera mode - is a sign that the phone needs a reboot.
To use the accelerometer as little as possible is a good advice, and the most benefit comes from not using it in your themes... like "Crystal" and "Laser precision", where the wallpaper animation moves according to the accelerometer (except when the screen turns off). Or, use those themes but chose another wallpaper. You will save battery too with a static picture.
Take good care with the memcard. Removing and placing it back in too many times might break your card slot. If you really need battery life, dim your screen light (50 - 70%), use GSM instead of 3G and turn your bluetooth off.
Tip: everytime you put the memory card in, your phone updates the media library. THAT is a process the really eats battery life, especially if you have many files on that card (I know it's not your case).

Together maybe we get stability on k850i as much as it is possible! I use only gsm, light is on 50% (i would like to put it on 10-20% but it can't go uder 50%...). Theme that i use is Stones (from sony ericsson official page), and use static picture wallpaper. Bluetooth is off. I didn't know that crystal use accelerator also! I don't need so much battery life but i need stability (without restarting)! So i will try to have m2 card in the phone. I will test battery life and stability with m2 inside. I don't think that m2 would "eat" more than few hours of battery...but i'm gonna use it as less as possible (take pictures on phones memory, everything i use on phone etc..)
For now, i'm happy! Almost 1 month without restarting, everything is fast in phone, no pauses,jamming... Like I'm having brand new phone. This is not the same phone I send on repair...but IMEI says it is! So, i keep my fingers crossed to stay as it is... |

I am curious too if there is any difference in battery life between these two situations (with and without memory card in). So once you have a result, please post. I check this forum on a daily basis.
I don't have the time to perform this test myself. Plus, I use the phone quite irregularly. I mean - perhaps today I take 10 pictures and talk 20 minutes, but tomorrow I don't use it at all. I couldn't tell if the battery lasted longer because I took the card off or because I used the phone less...
Other than what we said so far, I don't think there's anything left to cover on the matter of phone stability. A year ago "updating the firmware to the last version" would have been another suggestion...

Without m2,normal use-1 percent-1hour. I test it: 100percent means 96 hours. But with m2 i use more multimedia. Now i have 15 percent. 48h. But with 2hours video watching,75 photos outside,35 inside. Talking 30min,few sms,2hours opera mini over edge,1hour of radio listening.. It could last even 4 days. And with hardcore use 2 days. So when not needed often, pull out m2.. I don't think you need it all time.. Also, when you use phone, and multimedia more, heap memory-working memory is running low.. But when you don't have m2 in,you don't take bunch of photos, videos, listen music... And when do-remember to turn off and on. Watch for signs-flickering video, setings menu in photo mode etc. So to prevent restarting, pull out m2,because you limit your self then. You take less photo,no music,no video-no restarts. But when traveling, want to listen music-m2 in. Birthday,hollyday-need bunch of photos,m2 in. For me there is also sometime few days of less use.. M2 is not guilty directly for restarting or battery drain, but indirectly. I use then a lot of multimedia... Specs: m2 -standby 1mA, read-write 100mA or more..

Sorry but theres NO WAY in hell im going take my memory card out all the time. My K850 hasnt rebooted in over 3weeks now and heres why:
I realised that what realy makes it reboot all the time is when it CONSTANTLY reads the memory card for the wallpaper, theme and screen saver also if you use an app thats in the memory card often the phone will restart especialy when running multiple apps that are in the mem card so what ive done is ive moved the theme, screensaver and even the wallpaper (currently dont use one though) that im using to the phone memory, ive also moved the apps i use everyday to the phone mem, and still have 28mb phone memory left. My memory card only has my media, and back up of apps that are in the phone mem. Ive been using this method for the last 3weeks and not had a single reboot, im able to multitask a lot more eg. Today i had Opera Mini3, Ucweb6.3, Mxit IM and Media all running doing tasks, and although it did affect the speed quite a bit the phone was still just fine, didnt reboot since the apps i was running were all in the phone mem because those are apps i use very often,if im heavily multitasking and want to listen to music i also use KD Player with a nice Black Walkman skin, KD Player is also in my phone mem and the phone's speed is not realy affected that much when multitasking and using KD Player for music. All in all the phone works just fine with no inconvenience of having to remove mem cards.
Ps: i avoid using Flash themes and mainly use very lite themes that are mainly black or dark blue in the background and that helps with speed as well when multitasking.

Your way is good if you often need extra memory..I don't.. What I'm cosidered about is that when i bought k850 it worked perfectly fine for a month, and then restarts apears.. My is almost month now without any restarts..but,what if...!? I'm considering to put in m2 but empty. Just to send photos on it when needed.. I'm for removing m2 because i read somewhere that m2 could induce instability,restart.. There is a lot of maybe.. But,in first place i need stabile, reliable phone..then other functions(a lot of memory,camera,etc..). After service repair i noticed that there is no freze whem turning on phone and type in pin number. Before i type numers but they apear after 2-3 sec. Like some processing jamm.. Now nothing. Fast, reliable. I have 35mb free,it is enough for me,every day use..i'm just cousious..just in case! |
