What is it with you guys??? Whenever SE underperforms, why do you all come up with excuses for them??? QVGA is enough??? 262k enough??? no 3.5mm jack, etc. enough??? Cybershot beaten by other brands, enough??? Average speed proccessors enough??? No capacity battery enough???
1) QVGA IS enough for sub-/2.4" screens.
2)They've got a patent which allows them to boost the colour reproduction of the screens without using 16 mil. colours. That way, SE phones conserve battery life.
3)Frankly, I agree with you on the 3.5mm jack thing, but I think that it is only necessary in walkmans.
4; 5) Agreed |

1) Yes, but not for screens >2.6". And today sreens should be larger than that in phones aimd for some type of multimedia.(high-end phones.)
2)But people buying a phone looks at the stats and not on the tecnology used. If SE got a patent they should hype it some, IMO. |

1) 2.6 is too large for feature phones, IMO (I don't see Shiho being a smartphone). You've got the P, X and G series for that.
2) I think the screens on SE's newer phones speak for themselves. As stated by nymerous reviews, they're "one of the market's finest".

Guys seriously.
You can tell me that Paris' display is too small, when you had it in your hands
deal? |

it's the battle of the insiders...
some say "paris has new hardware, big screen, etc etc.."
some say "paris has old hardware and generally a few features different from g900"
which to believe? ~ 3 weeks until we find out the truth...

Some here *Cough cough makbil cough* seem to think they should live their life according to a sheet of paper with numbers on it. Living by specs is what the average N*kia N-series idiot does. People who dont really know what the numbers actually mean, and just think 'the bigger the better'.
Case and point: Paris, with a 2.6" QVGA screen will have a better screen than N96's 2.8" QVGA screen. The latter sounds better because its got a larger diagonal (so then they think more/bigger/better screen). But that of course is not the case, because the PPI will go down, and as a result the screen will be blurier. This makes it more suitable for looking at the screen from further away (videos, etc), but unless thats all youre going to use the device for, IMO the former is better. Side note: 'statistics is like a bikini- very revealing, but it hides the bits you really want to see'. Sometimes the same goes when youre comparing details in electronic devices.
Remember that it is SE philosophy to deliver a different experience with each phone. Its more and better than just specs. SE will sell anyway, because a huge huge proportion of those buying phones will just think 'oh that one looks cool', and wont even glance at the spec sheet. So on that level, you will know that you can rely on SE to provide a quality experience.
With something like N*kia, however, its more like- this is the spec sheet, this is the crap UI, crap battery life (the small print on the bottom of that spec sheet, not the one in big bold writing), this is how much it costs, those numbers are bigger, so buy it.
All points being valid, if you dont agree with SE philosophy, I would recommend you look into different manufacturers, because spec sheet obsession ISNT what SE is about. |

and again SE is not goin' to try to fake something like the Iphone.
SE creates it's own phones
cheers

Few things:
1. UiQ announced UiQ 3.3. So some devices will use it for sure. SE devices, precisely. With Opera 9.5 onboard.
2. 3.3 is having 12 grid design, seen on Pnext protos.
3. Eldar states he has not seen devices running different than 208mHz and UiQ3.0. This is simply untrue. Completely.
Unless SE cancels the whole thing, look at the above. |

Yes you are quite right there. But some parts of SE is pretty wrong.
One is that SE has by far not as good camera as the n82. And it lacks good videorecording. And it is here the little older hardware is bad because you can't fix it with unique and fancy software. The desigt and format is good, but the idea and branding "cybershot" doesn't live up to the expectations.
Another thing:
SE once told that they wanted high mobility and therefore didnt make Wlan a major thing in their phones. But still they haven't got a single smartphone with HSDPA (except xperia) |

They do now: G702. Dont you people understand? Theyre not going to fix the old hardware as far as we know. Of course they can and might, but I for one doubt it. Its as Eldar said: SE plan to tweak UIQ handsets minimally to gain selling momentum, and then when the new UIQ platform arrives around Q2 2009, they will implement that with new hardware and higher specs.
Id wait for that personally, but I need a new phone now, and Paris already fulfills most of my requirements in one way or another anyway. As Ive said before, theres no point in always waiting for the next big thing in high end phones because something newer, bigger and better is always coming. Once we get to UIQ4 someone will say oh it hasnt got gesture control, or oh it hasnt got a projector so it wont be viable in the future and then the rest will follow like sheep. People like PK and Mizzle are always here because they can always get their hands on SE's latest and greatest offerings, and so they can always talk about them. I however, just want a good phone, and once I have it I probably wont come back here any time soon. Simple. So if you want great new core hardware in SE smartphones, come back next year, thats all I can suggest. |

Being used to 2.8" on my P990, I can already say P1's screen is a downgrade. What's the point of defending SE models that seem regressed compared to the P990 that we ranted so much about?
SE's policy of trying to keep up the hype by trickling vague information about their products is failing miserably, especially since they don't seem to have a product they can deliver.
Think about it, SE hasn't been able to deliver a "wow" product since the P900, what's that 4-5 years? P990 was a fiasco mainly due to bad product management and stopping support, it could have been made better even in its current condition. So, the product everyone sees as the flagship is outsourced to HTC. Does anyone really believe that HTC will make a better product for SE than they will make for themselves (eg. Raphael)?
Just like most people here, I've been waiting for a worthy upgrade for my P990 but as time passes it looks less likely that SE can deliver. I hope I am proved wrong, I really do like the Symbian+touch screen combination.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

Hasnt been able to? What are Sony a bunch of clowns? What are Ericson people who communicate with paper cups tied to strings? These people know their stuff. Of course they can. If they havent its because they dont want to. And if everything is such a downgrade and nothing is ever as good as your P990, why are you even here :S. Obviously there will never be another phone you will love that much :S. Please go give it a hug instead of trying to bring down everyone here with negative comments. |

Ok, I'll divert the topic a bit
So, PK (or m-one, or Mizzle, or any of the insiders), you've surely had your hands on Shiho. Do you like it? |

lol I don't think Mizzle gets his hands on any of them. He just gets info on it. Maybe Angello (beta-tester) will be able to shed some light |
