Yamaha has announced Series 3 of their "Avitecs MyRoom" line of personal, soundproof rooms. Unlike the previous series which were marketed towards musicians only, the new MyRooms are being advertised as suitable for activities such as computer use, DVD playing and study. After all, what else could you do in a personal, soundproof room??

The MyRoom is available in three types - natural, standard (medium brown) and deluxe (dark brown). The natural and standard rooms differ only in colour. The deluxe room has thicker walls and, therefore, increased soundproofing ability.

Pricing for the three types of room is: natural - 438,900 yen, standard - 522,900 yen and deluxe - 627,900 yen. Delivery and assembly must be carried out by a specialised tradesperson at costs of 21,000 yen and 31,500 yen respectively. At first, sales will only be conducted through affiliated Yamaha music instrument stores but, in time, the sales market will be expanded. Rental sales are also planned from 2005.

External dimensions of the natural and standard rooms are 1424 x 1866 x 2056 mm (W x D x H). Weight is 245 kg. The deluxe room has dimensions of 1464 x 1906 x 2076 and weighs 340 kg. Internal dimensions for all models are the same at 1328 x 1770 x 1964 mm.

Soundproofing ability is rated at Dr-30 for the natural/standard rooms and Dr-35 for the deluxe room. Dr is the scale on which soundproofing ability is determined according to the Japanese industrial standard. Outside of the room, the sound of a 90dB piano would be approximately equivalent to people talking (~60dB) at Dr-30 and approximately equivalent to people talking in a low voice at Dr-35.

However, unlike the rooms for music performance, the rooms contain no technology for sound absorption processing. Therefore, if a musical instrument is played, users may find the sound reflections and reverberations unsettling.

Standard equipment includes a slit-window door, 2 power points and a ventilation fan. Special options include a low-table/desk (68,250 yen), a Ethernet x 1 / Tel x 2 / TV x 1 / Power point x 3 connector panel (36,750-47,250 yen) and a rear-speaker mounting kit (24,150 yen).

A window-less door can be optioned at no cost and a side panel with a window slit is also available for 21,000-31,500 yen.

The 1st image looks more like an individual sauna bath ! Though nice . . . Why haven't BOSE thought of this idea then? People who are afraid of enclosures will find this 'room' hard to use by . . .

I wonder how you take it to a lan?

I have similar setup, though it involved moving into a 2 storey house and making sure everyone else stays on the ground floor until they need to sleep.
