i have to say I agree with Yazan's rather unsublte opinion!
I've often tried searching for something, and even trying putting a '+' before the words i am searching for, and got either nothing or thousands of results.
One thing though Yazan - calling people idiots just because they don't agree with you ain't exactly polite....
I'll probably get called an idiot for saying that, but hey!

No Im not a famous designer nor Bill Gates.
But I am a webdesigner, and Im not as ignorant as you.
Bill Gates is an Entrepaneur and not a Webdesigner not a Computer Genius, its a common mistake. By the much lower stupider division of society.

The esato search works really well after you have read the infomation on how to use search terms at the bottom of this page:
http://www.esato.com/board/search.php
If you would prefer to use google to search esato then type your search term including:
site:www.esato.com
That searches only the esato domain. For further info on google searches refer to their help pages:
http://www.google.com/help/refinesearch.html

search for five words: search function on esato sucks
and its #1.
you're searching for content, not the title, and its good at searching out CONTENT.
Posted by wapchimp
True again. It's top. I think the title should be picked up in a search though.
Posted by kimcheeboi
maybe an option "search for title"
edit:and look at the "flame war" of smilies

I did not invent the search function. It's built into the mysql (database) server.
From the mysql manual:
Every correct word in the collection and in the query is weighted according to its significance in the collection or query. This way, a word that is present in many documents has a lower weight (and may even have a zero weight), because it has lower semantic value in this particular collection. Conversely, if the word is rare, it receives a higher weight. The weights of the words are then combined to compute the relevance of the row

the latest version we have is much better than what we had last time. anyway, there are 3 ways of searching ESATO.
1) the esato Forum SEARCH function
2) the "Search Esato" function(which you can see on the left part of your screen everywhere in the site)
3) search using http://www.google.com with the "site:
I hope that helps.

@laffen. Can't you override that built-in search function of mysql, making your own queries with qualifiers like "+" and "-"? The only problem is if mysqI queries are case-sensitive (Oracle is...).
Posted by GOwin
@krubach
that's doable already.
notes in the esato forum search function:

By default, the search engine will find the most relevant post to the search term. Just like Google do. But you may want to be more spesific and use some of these operators: |
