Having read many posts in this forum it is clear that irda synchronisation with xtnd connect pc and outlook works for some people, but for others it simply does not work at all. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter category.
Personally I find this unsatisfactory - having failed even to identify the source of the problem I emailed Ericsson technical support but received no reply. I do hope the folk from Ericsson read this forum so they get some idea of the frustrations of users who have shelled out large sums of money for their mobile phones that don't work (or at least seem not to work with a pretty standard pc/windows setup).
Maybe we could start a bit of a thread on other peoples' experiences. Just say whether you've been experiencing problems with outlook synchronisation, or if everything's just fine, post your operating system, t68 software version, outlook version and irda adaptor make.
Here's mine:
Outlook synchronisation: doesn't work
Problem when synchronising with outlook: "unable to detect phone" (other applications using the phone and irda such as GPRS internet are perfectly able to "detect the phone"
O/S: Windows XP
Outlook: Outlook XP
Ericsson phone: t68
Software version: R1B
IRDA adaptor: Tekram iRmate 410U
That's all folks.

IrDA connection using NEC laptop.
It works. Although I've only done this a few times. I just usually send files such as backgrounds and ringtones.

I had BIG problems when I tries to sync my Outlook contacts with my phone.
The only thing I found out was that if the Irda speed was set to high it didnt work.
Error messages as "couldnt find phone" etc.
But when I decreased the speed it worked fine.
Posted by Linkinpark17UK
set the IrDa speed to 9800 bps and try to download some software from SE as XP and ME do have some probs with Infra Red.
Posted by thomasbordvik
I have the exact same problem with almost the exact same hard/software!! Ant it`s SO anoying!
We can trie some of the solutions mentioned above, but somehow I feel that the combination t68, XP and IRmate is a poor combination...
Mine also works fine with connecting to the internet.
This is what I got:
OS: XP pro
Outlook: 2000
IRDA: Tekram IRmate210 (set to 38400)

Well, having tried all the solutions people suggested (unsuccessfully) I finally heard from Ericsson.
This was their reply:
Dear Mr Lane,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson,
With regard to your enquiry, Ericsson handsets are not currently compatible with Windows XP. There is a software patch in the pipeline, however a release date is not currently available.
Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards

Synchronization of calendar and address book with outlook works good, except for some rare occasions when I have synchronized outlook with the exchange server when there may become duplicate entries in the address book.
HSCSD modem works good too through the IR channel, since the telephone company only offers 9.6 kbps/time slot and the phone only user 2 slots, it will always connect at 19.2kbps. (Other operators provide 14.4kbps/slot and other brands of telephones, like Nokia for example, offer phones that use up to 4 slots.

I have also tried to read my mail using the mail client in the phone, and it works, but it's very slow. If there is a normal amount of new emails in the inbox, it generally takes too long time to download the messages.

My connection doesn't work at all.

It found my phone once, and I managed to send a pic.
But that's it.
Sometimes I get a connection for about 3 seconds, but then the connection is lost.. so I can't really use it at all.

USing built in IrDA
Ultimately, i got it working after fighting with IrDA drivers for like 3-4 hours.. (duuuh, forgot to "enable" the COM port in BIOS)
the software i downloaded off sonyericsson's site AND sendfile both don't do jack squat until i close XP's automatic pop-up "transfer files to IR device".. once i close this, everything works flawlesslessly....
perhaps there is a process of the automatic transfer that is hung up in the background??

A theme is developing here. The problem appears to be Windows XP. This was confirmed by Ericsson (see their reply to my email a few posts above).
Strange that XP works fine with GPRS internet over IRDA but not Outlook synch.
Posted by altemyr
I think that the problem really is with XTNDConnect that is not compatible with Windows XP. Many times Windows and Microsoft get the blame when things don't work as expected on the pc, and in many cases that may be a correct accusation, but in equally many cases it's not. Instead, it's 3rd party software that is not made entirely according to the specifications that cause the problems.
Posted by mixin
ive got it working fine with winXP
i get no problems doing a snych in outlook.
Posted by Newton
Using:
Win2000
Outlook 2000
Actisys IrDa
I get a "Can't find phone" message even with speed @ 9600 (though it's within range according to the IrDa icon)
My method to get it work is kinda brutal... I open the task manager and terminate "Epmwor~1.exe" (sometime "DbgOut.exe" too...) in the processes list (they are launch with outlook), then I launch the sync again and then it works like a charm.
Probably not the finest way to make it work but it's the only way so far I found to get my calendar updated!

It's not SE you should contact. It's better to contact Extended Systems which supplies the XTNDConnect software.
It's there software that's not working, not SE.

ITs easy I figured out how to do it...i know when i 1st started syncing..had major problems..all u gotta do press the sync buttong on the comp.....when its searching already..thats when u face ur phone to ur comp....coz if u do the searching and ur fne is facing the infra of ur comp...itll be idle so it wont c ur fone..so REMEMBER..press syn and when its searching already..u turn on ur inrared on ur fne and place it face to face with the infrared port...hope it works for you

Seems little rhyme or reason here. Where problems occur Win XP seems to be involved more often than not.
Of course it's hard to say whose "fault" this is, but I wish vendors like Ericsson wouldn't advertise their products as being compatible with mainstream hard/software when it clearly isn't

OS: Windows 2000
PC: Toshiba Satellite Pro
It's not possible to change the IrDA speed for this Toshiba model, and probably a lot of others. My IrDA driver doesn't support SIR (Serial Infrared) which uses speeds between 9600-115,200bps. It uses the new FIR (Fast IR) with support for 4.0 Mbps. Even if new IrDA hardware is supposed to be backward compatible with SIR, the Toshiba Win2000 IrDA driver is not.
Because of this, I'm only able to transfer small amout of data between the PC and phone. Outlook 2000 sync sometime works but sending logos doesn't.

Hello
I am not able to get a contact with my cell phone to the pc via infrared for syncing with xtnd connect pc (the software which i use for sync my lotus notes with my t68, trial version 4.4 - i do not want to pay 60$ for a non functioning prog). as i found some articles that match my criteria in some way, i cannot fix the problem. mobile modem settings/drivers and other configuration tools do well without
problems. only xtnd connect pc has got problems with infrared. i get following error message
"some of the infrared communication components are missing" --> where do i get this ? Furtheron I cannnot chose my T68 while installing the software. only one model is shown (R320s). Additionally, "irbridge kernel-level interface" in device manager is shown as not installed, driver is not recent?
does anybody know this problems? use someone this software for notes sync as well? would be nice getting some help
meckes

Ericsson phones and PCs are just plain incompatible. Very poor show is my opinion. This should really be an Advertising Standards Association issue. Trade descriptions Act maybe.

i think this is the answer to your problem, although it is not very helpful:
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Customer Care Center.
Our software does not support the Windows XP products yet neither the OS nor the
Office package.
As a matter of fact I have no information about the release date. Please inform
yourself on our web page or call us from time to time.

I have just about thrown my computer out the window thinking it was windows just not liking my phone. I am running 95 and it seems that sometimes if I reboot and stand on one leg it "finds the phone". I havent tried slowing down the speed yet for fear of another failed attempt. Any suggestions out there I am more than happy to entertain. Thanks. TD

I have 2 O/S in my PC :
1. O/S: Windows 98se
2. O/S: Windows XP Pro
Outlook: Outlook 2000
Ericsson phone: t68i
Firmware version: R2B025
IRDA : Amaze PC (Generic)
Software : R4A Package 4 ( download from Esato)
Work well without any problem on Win'98se, but fail on Win XP.

My setup:
Toshiba Tecra 8100 (FIR port - speed can't be changed)
Windows XP Professional
Outlook XP
Ericsson Communications Suite R4A (Package 1 + 2)
i-mified T68m, R2E006 firmware, R4A hardware
Result:
It works.
Our service point mentioned to me something about Ir communication failure to be a firmware problem. Have the phone re-flashed or replaced. It manifests by the Phone Book and Text Message manager not being able, ever to perform an initial sync although it will connect. When it drops the connection, your Ir connectivity has failed and you have to take the phone out of sight, and put back on sight for the Ir communication to re-establish.

Onboard IR adapters on older motherboards (Pentium MMX) may not work reliably. But a USB IR adapter would work. Oh but win 95 and USB don't really mix.

I have a Sony Ericsson T68i phone and a Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop with built in IRDA running on Windows XP Professional.
The IR port works as is, default speeds.
I use Office XP (Outlook 2002) and the XTNDConnect Software with no troubles at all to synchronize.
One tip, use the Ericsson Modem Driver. My AT&T Service Provider has a download for using the phone as a modem but doesnt work correctly. Installed the Ericsson Driver downloaded from the Ericsson site solved this issue.

Chronos USB IrDa
Latest Package 4 from Ericsson
I've had no real problems with IR for the past 2 years using Win98SE, I have tried Bluetooth using an MSI dongle recently but gave my PC a massive performance hit so I've gone back to using IR. Once I found the updated drivers for the Chronos IRDA at chronos.com.tw it hasnt failed once.

I've finally solved this problem....
OS: Windows XP
Port: IR
Software: Package1_1_5_1
There is one component not installing correctly. If you use WinRar you can open the package1_1_5_1.exe file and extract the directory called "anubis_setup" Just simply installing this package (Ericsson Phone Monitor) will solve the problem.
If anyone has problems extracting that directory email me and I'll email it to you!

This goes out to the first poster, and any other whom may benefit. I have:
Compaq Evo N1020v laptop
XP Pro
Outlook 2000
Acer IR port/driver
Kept getting the message "Cannot detect phone"....eventually this is how I got it to work...installed pack 1: http://wap.sonyericsson.com/emi_download/SynchSoftware/R4APackage1.exe
Then installed pack 4 and installed ONLY XTND... http://wap.sonyericsson.com/emi_download/SynchSoftware/R4APackage4.exe
It doesn't 'always' sync perfectly, but 90% of the time it does. When you see the 2 comps communicate via IR, hit the "Sync" button on XTND...by installing these packs separately I got a completely different setup and no issues - hit the "purchase" button when it shows - does nothing really. Good luck..G

Also had problems with XP, but the IRCOMM driver sorted them out!
Can't remember if it comes with the SE packages, but most likely from the Phone Backup site (has a link to it).
Hope this helps.

Do you use any firewall software? I find that zonealarm is often the culprit with sync software. For some programs I have to run it and end it in order for them to communicate properly. You might want to experiment with that.

Not wanting to carry a SyncStation around I have been trying to get the phone to sync over irda. Many hours wasted with "no phone found" changing ir settings, modem settings, network settings, rebooting, etc.... In a flash of brilliance I went and borrowed a syncstation, changed the settings for it to search on IR, and hewy presto... my sync was done in about 1.5 minutes.

Phone connects to pc on the IR Monitor. Very temperamental when connecting to XTNDconnect PC and the SE desktop tools. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it does not. But always takes a long time. I really don't need much syncing and file transfers but I just hate it whe things don't work right.
Any clues?
