Finally! My next device. No negative points. I just hope the display quality is good enough. And of course the battery...

What Android version is this launching with???

This is good for those people who wanted "flagship specs" in a more compact smartphone.

EDIT:

Oh dear...

Thanks, but I looked at these two links (plus the author's post in this thread) and there was no mention of LTE and/or 4G : http://www.sonymobile.com/glo[....]xperia-zr/specifications/#tabs , http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_zr-5421.php is it XR4/5 info? where did you see this? Many thanks

Posted by -16-
Yeah I was confused, too. There is nowhere LTE mentioned.

Posted by SON1Q
Is the notification light at the bottom of the XA definitely on the XZR?
no mention of it in the youtube video or on sony's website

Posted by randomuser
It's clearly mentioned here - 4G LTE

http://blogs.sonymobile.com/p[....]ith-superior-sony-engineering/

13th May 2013, London – Sony Mobile Communications (“Sony Mobile”) today introduces the new Xperia ZR featuring the highest level of water-resistance for capturing photos and Full HD videos underwater. This Android smartphone offers leading technology and content with a 4.6” HD Reality display, 13 megapixel fast capture camera, Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S4 Pro quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, and 4G LTE

Posted by roanmy
Really hope the version released in Norway has LTE...

Curious, on mobil.se (swedish website for phone news) they mention 4G, but it's not mentioned on Sony Sweden's ZR page!

http://blogs.sonymobile.com/w[....]05/Xperia_ZR_press_release.pdf

it says removable 2300mAh battery..that is from the Sony Mobile Press Release...it is listed under battery life and in the kit! ...although that document also gets the name wrong in the spec titles where it says Xperia Z

Posted by admad
According to Xperia ZR white paper it's indeed 2300 mAh removable. This phone seems really good, I hope it's priced right and available in Europe. Can't really think of any disadvantages besides a little big size for 4,55", and possible screen and camera quality issues.

AFAIK, all devices with default ICS uses a different internal memory system. One SD Card + data, + 1 Gb for system and such.

@all: Someone please tell me the point of this device after all? Just to have a waterproof phone with a camera button?

A) Why not put it in Z after all?
B) Why not just don't develop it and focus on less devices?

Posted by Bonovox
Yes removable good. I hate it when Sony does those models with removable back cover but not battery. Seems daft. And 8 gig internal not alot these days with Android

Posted by goldenface
If I wanted this phone I'd just import it from Holland. I can only get a phone on contract only so often. I wish the Z had the shutter key though.

Nice phone.
Few things.
1. Why didn't Z just Camera button - I knew it could be done.
2 does it have ps3 controller option.
3. Is it me or is the 3.5 jack waterproof too?!
watch the videos quite interesting
And ctia is? I don't have time to search now.
thanks

I like the VGA front camera ... with it you do not see my wrinkles.
(I really do not mind the front camera ... my last 4 phones had one and I did use it once to check if it works)

Maybe Sony's trolling us and trying to push us towards buying the Honami instead

3. No its not. You can se how the flap i removed when the jack is being used. when he pulls his headset out there is a screen showing like, "dont forget closing the flap". Just a reminder, beacuse your screwed otherwise...

For anyone on Facebook

Hey, can you please share the price detail…

Is this confirmed for sale in UK yet? I'd really appreciate the slighlty smaller size and camera button compared to the z.

Anyone who has the ZR? I am worried about thickness, whats your oppinion? Am i right, or am im just beeing silly?

Posted by FMW300
Mobile-Review has a nice review on ZR here.

Phone Arena didn't favour it much

Posted by itsjustJOH
^Not surprising. You'll know the score is biased and BS when you look at the cons. Average call quality, average camera, bland visuals for 6.5. Just look at the comments and see how disgusted the readers are with Ray.

Posted by Bonovox
Phone Arena are idiots anyway and they are also useless at camera testing and very biased towards Apple too. They did say that Sony have fixed the UI lag issues

This is the email I got from Sony. I asked the same question.

'Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre and for your interest in the Sony Xperia ZR.

Unfortunately we do not have any confirmation that this handset will be released to the UK market and it has been withdrawn from the Sony Mobile UK website.

We would suggest that you frequently visit the Sony Xperia website for further information regarding release dates for this product along with the features & specifications.'

Review here and camera seems improved

Posted by reeflotz
Screen is reviewed to be better too, and besides 720p and 1080p difference is hardly noticeable compared to the original Z. TBH this is what the Z should have been, also with camera button, but still its good to know Sony is now addressing the issues in camera software jpeg processing unlike before, which makes me look forward to what Honami will offer when its released.

Posted by razec
I'd say it's the JPEG engine that screwed bigtime on the Z, since ZR shared the same exact hardware with the flagship sans display. and it seems like ZR had used Honami's new processing algorithm like in the case of Z with Honami app installed. judging from the review It may appear noisier than those from S4 but there's plenty of details, I could care less on the luminance noise since they're perfect for BW photography and you have to do 100% crop pixel peeping on the small lines if you want to see how much details the S4 can resolve over the ZR which is marginal at best IMHO.
