I think that I will stick with my Xperia T for now. 5" screen is a bit too big for my pocket even if it is full HD.

Also has hDr photography
Taken from the Sony developer page

Edit-
Realised the black one has the same silver lining like the c905? If im right.
Just thinner

Wow that's expensive, I spent about half that on both my Xperia S and my Xperia TX

Still I'll be getting one at launch.

What I like :
- Design...
- 5" Full HD display...
- Size for a 5"er...
- Latest Technologies ( BT 4.0 LE, NFC, MHL, Full HD video recording, HD Exmore R front cam, etc.. )
- that Exmore RS 13MP camera...
- blazing fast S4 Pro Quad Core SoC with Adreno 320 GPU...
- 2GB RAM
- LTE on all bands
- Water and dust proof
- Quick time to market
- microSD slot

What I didn't like :
- 16GB internal memory
- no camera shutter key ( not that much important but it's a key to SE/Sony smartphones )
- no Full white version like Xperia ZL
- 16GB internal memory
- less than 2400mAh battery, I hoped for at least 2400mAh from Sony specially for all these info regarding the S4 Pro and it's power hungriness...
- did I mention the 16GB internal memory ?

I know a lot of peoples will say 16GB with microSD is enough, I might agree some how... but after Jelly Bean and how Google is like forcing not to move apps to the microSD ( personal experience with Note 2, plus all my friends and family who owns a Jelly Bean... I've read it every where also )
With Jelly Bean, basically you can't move apps to the microSD unless you rooted and forced to move the app... only the app maker might choose to move some of it's data to the microSD... again the app maker might choose to move some of it's data to the microSD... like games ( ex. NFS Most Wanted, saves it's game content which is almost 2GB to the microSD ), some other games like Smurfs Village (90MB) or Where's My Water (60MB) will stay all on the internal... the problem is even Google it self doesn't use the microSD.. Google Play Music app caches the music or download the offline music all to the internal, currently I have about 500MB of data for Play Music app while I just made only one Album to be offline !!

Lets face it, while we request Sony to use microSD slots on their phones, Google is pushing the other way and not just pushing, but forcing also by preventing moving apps to the microSD...

16GB is fine for most users, but as a high-end it should have 32GB at least now with Jelly Bean...

I didn't expect myself to say that but now with Jelly Bean and later I'll prefer 32GB internal without microSD over 16GB with microSD !! as the sole usage for microSD now with JB is to save large apps data like those super games with 100's of MB or multi-GB of game data...

Stunning design, but whats up with the small battery and Android4.1??? They say 4.2 will be released after launch but by that time we will have multiple flagships launching with 4.2 and the next Android version being unveiled, i hope this wont be a repeat of the XS situation in the long run.

Overall, doesn't look like Samsung, Apple or Htc have anything to worry about here, unless Sony have a groundbreaking marketing campaign for it.

Mentioned on Sony developer site

Also this is the world's first phone with Dual Exmor R

Front - Exmor R 2.2 megapixel 1080p Full HD camera
Rear - Exmor RS 13.1 megapixel 1080p Full HD camera

Wow, that's in fact the first phone by Sony that is practically perfect. The battery could be bigger, but other than that, fantastic, I think I'll get one. Let's just hope the camera is better than the one on Xperia T. I like the possibility of taking pictures underwater with a phone

Any body saw a preview or pictures to the notification area ?

I hope the new UI comes with more controls and not just like what came with T/TX...

EDIT : It's same as T/TX, very few and limited control... here at 3:27

Depends, real world battery life could be good? Id say it would be good for a day. Standard. Unless you start going into phablets territory.

What exactly is the difference between 4.1 and 4.2? Wasn't it just security fixes?

Posted by MyP910
Colour me impress and a lot of people said it is a super phone...and I agree with that. At this moment, I don't have any cons on the phone.

surprisingly, people are so impressed with the water proof feature but this is not the first sony's phone with that feature. It shows how bad sony is in terms of marketing. I really hope sony will invest huge in marketing strategy and please market it well.

I like the quad core and 2 GB RAM....
I like the glass design...
I like the 13MP camera...
I like the HDR capability in photo and video !
I like the full HD screen and 443ppi...
I like the design (the thickness, the power button, the symmetry design...)
I like the battery stamina thingy...eventhoug it is just a software, but it seems nice.
and of course I like the water proof feature.

For a phone with 5inch 1080P display? I'd expect at least a 2500mAh battery, just take a look at the Huawei Ascend D2.
Android4.2 brought quite a few UI enhancements including lock screen widgets, split system bar, status bar and notification bar amongst other things.

Is it me or that video it looks like the screen brightness looks a little TOO bright like on the Xperia P?? Might be nit picking but on the Xperia P the display becomes so bright the blacks looks grey and colours look off. Might be the recording though

Funny you say that, I heard a very similar thing mentioned on a YouTube video I seen on the Z.

"Xperia Z’s frame is made from glass fibre polyamide, the same material that’s used as a metal substitute in automobile parts."

I like this phone very much, tough and good looking.

I quite like the black or white. Slightly prefer the white as fingerprints wont show quite so badly as on the glossy black version.

Guys, post which color you have decided to get. Me - Black

I decided.....to wait for camera samples. Never more sub-par photo quality (Xperia Neo 8mpix user)

so, no Dragontrail glass on Z? What's the battery size on Z? (ZL has 2,370 mAh )
[ This Message was edited by: Miki69 on 2013-01-08 11:31 ]

Posted by admad
According to GSMArena Z has 2330 mAh.

Posted by randomuser
@miki69

It IS dragontrail glass on Z. Front and Back. Battery on both Z and ZL is 2400mAh. 2330/2370 is the minimum capacity, 2400 is max capacity.

Like Xperia S had 1750mAh battery but its minimum capacity is 1700mAh and 1700 is written on the battery, not 1750.

Apparently not. There was quite a lot of talk before the official specs were released that tree Z was going to come with Dragon Tail glass, so a little disappointed that it doesn't.

Carphone is saying it will have this phone in March which is brilliant. Not too long to wait at all.

OT: Can someone please explain to me the big deal with viewing angles? Reviewers keep on harping on about them like it's some primary feature that everyone is actually arsed about.

I just don't understand why they devote column inches to them. Doesn't it occur to them that some people might actually prefer narrow viewing angles for privacy reasons?

Are they all daft? I just don't get it.

The screen looks immense - even next to the XS. I can't wait to see it in person and that, thankfully, will be soon.

Ramu - ill get the purple one! 80% purple, 20% white. lol

With a very good 720p screen and an excellent battery runtime this would be my next device for sure. Don't like the resolution trend. I don't think that the battery will last long when I use the device. I'm not afraid about the standby runtime at all, but I don't have a mobile phone with such a big screen to leave it in the pocket...

On today's official announcement in Poland sony representative said that it will be available on our market after 18th of february priced at 3000PLN with 23% tax. It means 2400 before taxes so it's roughly 750-800USD and 600-650EUR. Its truly premium price but i'll still be getting one

I'm not 100% convinced by the design on a phone this large. Those square edges would worry me.

SGS3 works because although it's large, the corners are rounded off meaning it's pretty easy to hold.

Battery also needs to be top notch otherwise it won't even last half a day (based on the initial battery performance of Sony's flagships).

Wouldn't worry about a camera button - I haven't had one for a while now and I don't really miss it that much.

Sony really should have released this this 4.2. You can guarantee the competition will, and it will good old Sony over again.

And why oh why do Sony still keep using mineral glass - get with Gorilla Glass w antifingerprint coating and remove that silly screen protector.

^ Now THIS is proper video marketing! Well done Sony!
2 things: Love the woman in the pink dress WOW, and anyone notice the Bluetooth headphones she's using?? Sony didn't announce those so what gives?

LOL ^ I see what you did there. "Nit" picking ... was that an intentional pun there?? Nit = brightness measurement.

%50 Black, 50% Purple (I'll have to see it in person. The XZ will only be available where I live and I'm not importing so this is the best choice. I'm going to wait to see what LG does with Optimus G2 and compare. I'm hoping 64GB Sandisk MicroSD will work when formated internally for the XZ! Gaming on this bad boy is going to be SICK!!

LTE bands ... INSANSE!
LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600

Xperia Z white paper confirms LTE (C6603) and HSPA+ (C6602) versions

The white paper for the Sony Xperia Z has been published. It confirms that the Xperia Z will come in two variants:
– model number C6603 will support LTE (bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20), HSPA+ & GSM
– model number C6602 will support HSPA+ & GSM bands only

Each model supports slightly different HSPA+ bands too. The C6603 model supports 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 2100 (Band I) MHz.
The C6602 model supports the same above frequencies along with the 1700 (Band IV) and 1900 (Band II) MHz bands. This means T-Mobile USA users should be able to use 3G on this phone without issues.

why they all want to make us feel the XZ is bad
the SG-S3 already darked it out and he himself said he make the brightness in XZ at maximum
this is the most unprofessional biased review i have ever seen

I hope so too. Both the Z and ZL say 'coming soon' on the India site. so I'm guessing launch isn't all that far. first week of March.
Lets hope pricing is decent.

Haven't been this excited about a Sony(ericsson) phone since the x10. Owned a mini, tipo, arc S, T and P after the x10 but they miss the special feeling. Of course that's my personal opinion. What i don't like are the text and icons (garbage can) at the back of the phone. Am i the only one?
