Pity the Xperia S transparent strip can't match the colour of what's on the display. Oh well never mind.

Posted by daviep
is it not dual core?

Posted by hihihans
The strip and bottom are really cool.
How much storage?

Posted by adsada
Only 4GB and it gets worse, it looks like there won't be a microSD slot that's absolutely crazy, it's the one thing that could kill this otherwise all round great device. Maybe they're hoping you jump on board with shitty cloud storage...

Yes, it is (not quad as it says in the text above).

Posted by adsada
Of course it is! Sorry, I was typing that out quickly and subconsciously quad came out instead of dual

I'll update the thread with more info and pictures in due course

Or maybe it will be "dirt cheap".

This phone looks like XRay's successor but 5MP camera is a real turn down.
I don't want a bulky big screen phone :eyes

I wanted to share what i came through-
The Xperia U combines powerful Sony entertainment in a stylish and compact design that consumers can personalise inside and out. With xLoud and Sony 3D surround sound audio technology integrated into the music player, consumers will enjoy a crisp and loud sound experience. They can also stream music from their Xperia U to wireless speakers with a touch using DLNA.
In Xperia U the transparent element illuminates to match the colour of photos viewed in the gallery or the album art of music tracks currently playing. Xperia U can also be personalised with exchangeable caps and themes to reflect consumers' personality and mood.
It will launch on Android platform 2.3 (Gingerbread), upgrade to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter of 2012.

This is going to rock!!!! Waiting for it eagerly!!!!!!

Wouldn't you just remove the bottom section permanently to make the phone more compact?

It is just the shell of the bottom part that can be removed. Not the whole bottom part.

This is out on Three a decent budget phone at a decent price although with small internal memory still be a nice device

Got Xperia U today from Three store for £169. What a bargain. Lovely little handset and to be honest am not fussed over 4 gig memory am just gonna use it for what it is not a music player. Really like it

Posted by Leyland
You can also get it at Phones4u for £199 on pay as you go ( sim free )

Posted by emporium
Already ? Give us bunch of camera samples.

India has all the Phones

X U=16,499 rs /232 Euro
Salo= 19,999 rs /281 Euro
X P= 24,999 rs /350 Euro

Posted by Bonovox
Nothing amazing but decent enough. It's all I can afford right now & having dual core at this price is cool, I really like the handset.
Love the notification lights

Sorry 2nd one is blurry. My 1st Sony in years I like it. I know I slagged off Xperia S I am a very critical person at time. During the heat of today I used it alot & it never froze or rebooted so is a good sign. No screen yellowing & build is good

off topic I know Bonovox, but is this your main phone now, or is it still the Arc S?

Posted by djin
Congrats bonovox. Don't you find it too small? I used it for a while and i felt the screen to be little hard getting used to. Also whats the battery life like for the phone? Also the images seem pretty good for a 5mp camera!

Posted by Bonovox
Yes it's my main phone now. I don't find the screen small it's just a tad larger than the Ray. Beautifully sharp and bright. The camera images are not too bad they are around 1.35mb in size average which is larger than the Mini devices cams. I like it Its nice Sony have made a quality dual core budget device and for £169 I ain't complaining. It loads web pages fast. I left it on charge in my room and went to have dinner. Came back and in the darkness of my room I could see I had a message and my Xperia U was lit up like Las Vegas it looked ace

Ok thanks for the feedback ..I was pretty impressed with the build quality and how it felt in the hand. Pls do let me know hows the battery life like after you have used it for a while. My desire's dead So, Thinking of a replacement now..

Posted by Bonovox
Only things I hate so far is camera button feels bit spongy and the back speaker is a little weedy and slightly distorted. Hope Sony can sort that in an update but perhaps not as it's hardware I guess. Really I am using it for browsing texting photos etc not music so not fussing over 4 gig. No reboots so far In the box I got a black and pink cap for the bottom am not using pink one Texting is fast which makes a change from Xperia phones of old which were slow in typing.

Using Three network the Xperia U has amazingly crisp call clarity. My dad said on the other end I sounded as good as a landline. Has a very sensitive mic

nice, thanks

Soft touch plastic is nice on the back and sides. The fast capture feature is useless and not fast at all. It seems fiddly and it is not even close to how fast the HTC One series cameras are. But still love it

@ Bono
Nice Phone, happy for you ...would get me also one but there are 2 things that I miss on it ... HDMI port and more memory
(even on my old W800i I used 8GB card)

Posted by Bonovox
True yes but it's ok

Very high SAR value- 1,62

Posted by Bonovox
What's the big deal with that?? Who cares??

Posted by Bonovox
So far battery seems to be holding up well. On standby it barely moved and been using it alto all day so far and I got 76% left. For such a small battery it seems Sony have got the power saving thing sorted well.

My K750 and W800 had a battery of 900mAh and sometimes it was good for a week and even my first smartphone (P1i - 1120 mAh) was good for 4 days.
But this days a phone is even more than a laptop (yes you can call with it too ) and I still haven't found a laptop that works more than 10h on one charge, mine is good for 3h....
So even if the phone is much smaller with smaler battery it still can work for a day or two,not bad.
we complain too much

Antutu Benchmarks for this phone I got 5,360

Posted by Bonovox
I don't know what Sony have done inside but despite a paltry 1,300mAh battery its lasting so well. First full charge last night and been using it heavily all day and I now have 50% left roughly. Very good

Who cares? Those who talk a lot and worry about their health.

Posted by Bonovox
Mate,I have had hundreds of mobile phones since 1997 since the analogue days. If mobile phones were a health risk I'd be six feet under by now. I used to have four hour conversations on mobiles and sometimes still do. Your worrying over nothing.

@Bonovox
Can you post sample photos using camera flash in low light, I read in other forum that it has problem with the flash when its turn on? Something that photos become wash out...

Posted by emporium
Have you got any preinstaled pictures and music? May you share it with us?

Posted by Bonovox
Will do some later if that's ok?? Audio quality is good though I do have some music

Scientifically, SAR values up to 2 shall be safe and have no impact on anyones health to my best knowledge. But if it still worries you, either don't use a mobile device at all or use a headset.

Thats pretty good for low light! Its nice to hear about the battery life too.. Just worried how sony will treat the ics update to the U now.. They dropped the 4.0 update for play..

Posted by Bonovox
Yes and am seriously not kidding I use it alot during the day and battery is lasting well into past midnight before it gives up. Sony must have known what they were doing putting in a small battery. I wonder if any other Xperia batteries will fit my Xperia U??

Posted by djin
Thats impressive! You might be able to fit in the ray's battery maybe? I think its shorter but the width might be similar.

Btw, I just read this over at xperia blog.. The U will get ics late q3!
