I was sad when you came, Ericsson only phones were history, now I am sad you are history! Good bye Sony Ericsson!

My first ever Sony Ericsson phone was the T300 with colour screen and polyphonic ring tones

What was your first Sony Ericsson phone? Do you still have it?

t610i.dont have that but still have my k750,s700,k850.

Posted by goldenface
Mine was a green T300 too. I don't have it though. I'll miss the Sony Ericssson, the highs and the lows, even though it has morphed into Sony Mobile.

@bucheral
You have a nice collection there.

Posted by chunkybeats
awesome collection!! yes my first sony ericsson was a green t300 too with the communicam!!! I have had that then moved onto k500i, s700i, w810i, w995 and recently have the neo v which will do me for a very long time!! Will miss you SE, just isnt the same but hey we have to be move but will be holding on my neo v for quite some time!!!!

My first phone was blue T300. For this 9 years or more i dont know, i had only SE phones.

I started with the T630i, then went on to w810i and after some more SE I got disappointed bei X10 and switched to HTC. But SE ist still the No1 when it comes to Style and UI. Love that brand!

Posted by bucheral
@jalal: thank you for your comment!
@all, I just loved the T300, a special way of freedom, with the communicam, the pics were not so good quality but anyway that was the time, colour display and cam

A lot of people did not like the T300, for them it looked just like a piece of soap... certainly the upcoming T610 was beautiful, but I always liked that icy blue colour of the T300, T200, P800 phones....

Posted by bluke424
My 1st Sony Ericsson phone was a W810, then I pretty much had only Sony Ericsson phones, I also tried other brands, but I always came back to my 1st crush.

@chunkybeats, Neo V seems like a good phone to have, are you happy with yours?

Posted by VLADISLAUS
My 1st phone, and my 'first love' was Sony Ericsson J220i that take me around the world via WAP...
and then SE W700, sold -> K320i sold -> K550 sold -> G502 sold -> W660 sold -> bought G502 again, sold -> SE W880, sold -> bought K550 again, sold -> and then C510 until now, and i don't wanna sell it
except if there is someone who like to trade my C510 with SE Xperia RAY... (anyone?)

Posted by etaab
I would never have considered buying a Sony phone prior to them jumping into bed with Ericsson. First phone was a T68i but i quickly got rid of it due to it breaking early so the T610 was my first proper SE phone i 'owned'. Then i had a K700i, K750i, P900, W880i and lastly the Satio, which at the time i said would probably be the last SE phone i would ever own. I was right too.

Posted by bluke424
@etaab, so I guess your next phone will be a Sony?

Posted by goldenface
I went from Satio to the X10. Satio nearly put me off mobile phones altogether it was that bad. The camera was great but the OS was very high maintenance, infuriating even!

Posted by etaab
No, my next phone will either be a Samsung or HTC more than likely. Nokia have really offended me with their bad customer service with my first N8 and continuing bad support for Symbian.

The Satio was a good phone let down by SE themselves. They had little to NO decent free apps in their Playnow app store. The touchscreen was also terribly unresponsive and took days to get used to.

The quality of the photos is terrible, but I'm too lazy to take better photos now. Here are my babies:

Posted by bucheral
@mediar:

a nice little collection you have there! The T630 is beautiful, I always prefered it to the T610

in one way im happy Sony went away................

now Ericsson can go back doing excellent cell-phones like they did 10 years ago. (they have nevertheless all the technical skills they need.......as then, as now)

ps..........just look at Sony`s cell-phones before Ericsson came in (2002 something).....he he...wow

Posted by bucheral
@plankgatan:

yes you are right, but do you really think Ericsson will produce phones again?

Sony could jack-ass about cellphones before 2002. Ericsson showed them everything..............thats for sure.

Ericsson is still one of the world leading company's in the communication market......if they want, they can do it.

@ares:

thanks for all these pictures, cool collection of SE phones, keep them, they will shortly be legends

I can't believe this company is over. In short, the world does not know the good taste yet!

Sony Ericsson was really good at whatever they did, besides customer service which I don't give a damn!

Posted by plankgatan
totally agree. Sony are nr.1 regarding design and new features.

compare Nokia, Sony , Samsung, HTC & Apple design skills.

what can i say, Samsung & HTC looks awful, just awful.

Nokia latest models looks nice (but they have been awful too (regarding design)

Apple have make 2 cellphones (3G & 3GS are the same and 4 & 4S are the same), so i really dont count them in actually.

Ja. It was a T230. Still have it; still working.

Still the best for selected tasks (but not others).

Time marches on (3G support, better displays, better responsiveness, MP4 support, MicroSD cards, etc.) making it a curious antiquity these days, but still favoured for certain things, not the least of which is the better physical size, semi-transparent sides (!!) which let the backlight through, rock-solid physical construction (despite plastic creaks and tacky silver paint it's built like a tank), large clock display in a great thick font which is always showing by default in standby (unlike the Sony Ericsson Cedar which needs a press to show the clock), superior Timer ring length (compared to the non-repeat of the countdown timer tones in the Cedar) and other things I like in it compared to other modern phones I've tried.

Posted by vlotnet

now Ericsson can go back doing excellent cell-phones like they did 10 years ago.

No they cannot; Sony bought all their share of the joint venture.
It's Sony that will be doing this.

Unless I'm missing something, Ericsson have said their last goodbye to the consumer side of things.

T68W, T630, Z600, P900, K750i, P1i. Only got the P1i left.
The end of a great area
I am looking forward to what Sony will pump out.

I remember the T300 and the communicam, the shiny T610 and t630 phones, then the superb S700i and of course those unforgettable P800/900/910/990 models, history now, but living history

I dont see why they cannot. Anybody can make anything surely ? theres no law against it. I dont think it'll happen anytime soon though, not with the market how it is these days. Back in the days of simple Ericsson phones prior to jumping into business with Sony, the market wasnt as cut-throat. Now with Apple, Samsung, HTC and Nokia all massive names in the business i dont think anyone will remember Ericsson or consider them to even investing in a purchase.

Unless they were to go after one segment of the market such as business users, a little like RIM of yesteryear.

Licensing patents that are now owned by Sony, bringing together development teams Sony bought...all things Ericsson would have to do to get into 'consumer' phones again.

Considering that both of them together (Sony Ericsson) were struggling to make profit, and now with the far less ambiguous SONY branding and worldwide recognition, I doubt it would be cost-effective for them to jump into phones again since they sold a lot of their IP and human resources to Sony.

In fact, it would make no business sense whatsoever unless they had some ground-breaking new technology that would turn the phone world on its head (and even then they'd be better off licensing to existing players).

Does anybody of you regularly make phone calls with the tiny little SE T600?

Posted by razec
T68 was the tiniest phone i've held so far(doubt there will be anything smaller than that today) but it felt natural in hands and the keys are easy to use, I never had such comfort with a nokia 8210 back then

Posted by Stolleman
Hi bucheral!

My First Sony Ericsson was the T68i that i borrowed from my brother, wery nice and reliable phone but one thing is for sure that I noticed, you can't swim with it

Since then I have used K810i and C905, both phones were really great and worked wery well. I choosed them because the very good cameras they had.

Posted by eum1r
SE is the best phone.. why we have to suffer this? i mean why they have to split up in their very good business?

Posted by anonymuser
It was never a "very good business" - don't get me wrong, I loved Ericsson phones back in the day and I really wanted SE to succeed, but in the early days all I saw was Sony strangling Ericsson's innovation, and then worthless Sony marketing taking it's place.

Ericsson invented Bluetooth, pioneered colour screens, cameras, touchscreens, data... all Sony ever invented was stupid brandnames. Cybershot. Walkman. Xperia. Each one designed to gloss over the thorough and all-encompassing mediocrity of the actual technology inside. Surprise surprise, it didn't work, and customers gradually moved on to better things.

Now their solution is yet another branding exercise - pull out the one big gun they still have in their arsenal and just call themselves Sony. Except even the Sony brand itself has been tarnished over the years, by the same complacency that afflicted SE, and is no guarantee of success anymore.

Over the past ten years they've surrendered their technological lead, lost their identity, pushed aside customer loyalty, given up on their own platforms and software, and finally put themselves at the utter mercy of Google in a crowded marketplace full of better hardware than they're capable of producing. Good luck to them I say.

my first SonyEricsson phone was a T68i

Before that I went through all sorts of manufacturers, Siemens, Sagem, motorola, Alcatel.

But after the T68i, I have had only SonyEricsson phones. (T610, P800, P910, W800, W910, and more)

They've had some really interesting and stylish phones over the years, but failed in the recent years.

Im hoping that some of that magic will come back with the new Sony takeover.

Posted by eum1r
but SE phone is good to us.. i feel it man.. i know in myself that SE is the best phone ive ever had

Posted by bucheral
Remember this tiny little SE phone, finally after many years I managed to get one in really nice condition and fully working!

@Stolleman:

we were angry when Sony joined Ericsson, but you are right it was definitely worth carrying on with SE phones, you mentioned some nice models!

@all: thanks for all your comments and pics!

I wonder, if someone here might be interested in an unused, boxed, simfree K750i or W800i at a reasonable price ?
We're planning to sell them, because we have too many phones, but, as both phones and accessoiries are in mint condition, plus they both have the CID36 camera module, I'd prefer to sell them to a collector, not to somebody who's only looking for a cheap spare.

Posted by vlotnet
bucheral, fantastic shot (love the background map too).
I never used this phone but the key shape looks fantastic, and so does the size.

These old-skool phones will be more desired by collectors since everything now is going Android and the older stuff will be more treasured, if it isn't already.

my father and his brother had 4000 stocks and they sold 2000 of them last week. (when they looked on the internet they saw they would get around £8000 each but when they went to the bank to collect the money the bank-man told them that the stocks had been "split" ????

(it was no big deal for them, i just thought it sounded weird).................anyway, from getting £8000 they got around £220

how funny the stock world can be
