Research In Motion has revealed its plan to compensate BlackBerry owners, by giving them free access to ‘premium’ apps such as Siri alternative Vlingo.

Enterprise customers will also get a free month of technical support.
The ‘premium’ apps, which include Sims 3, Photo Editor Ultimate and iSpeech Translator Pro, will be made available to download at BlackBerry App World from Wednesday.

“We are grateful to our loyal BlackBerry customers for their patience,” RIM co-chief executive Mike Lazaridis said. “We have apologised to our customers and we will work tirelessly to restore their confidence. We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to help prevent something like this from happening again.”

One of the apps is Vlingo Plus: Virtual Assistant, which is similar to the new iPhone App Siri. The app usually costs £12.62. As with Siri, Vlingo lets users interact with their smartphone by speaking commands, such as “play music”.
Vlingo is one of 12 apps that will be available for four weeks from Wednesday. RIM has indicated that others will follow before the end of the year.

The company said customers will get “a selection of premium apps worth a total value of more than $100″, but it has not made clear how many free apps each customer will be able to download.
