I am listing the changes here as me and other Esato members discover and report them:

Update #1: After downloading a .jar file in Netfront, you no longer need to wait for the full file name to slide by.

Update #2: The camera icon in the main menu looks nicer.

Update #3: After installing an application from the downloads menu, it will show a smaller version of the app's icon.

Update #4: The main menu opens notably faster than before.

Update #5: You can now turn Clear Voice and Noise Shield on and off from the Calls menu in Settings whereas before you could only do it whilst in a call.

Update #6: The significant blue-orange horizontal lines have been reduced to insignificant, hard-to-see purple horizontal lines.

Well, I have absolutely no idea whatsoever where to find the official list of firmware changes. Well done Sony Ericsson, for making your website a labyrinth.

Just checked SEUS and nothing so far for Generic UK models. Maybe in a few days time though as updates released for certain areas over the course of 14 days usually.

Posted by degraaff
Have you tried checking using the phone's own software update menu in the [settings -> general] menu?

Also, another thing I noticed since the update is that the calendar and walkmate widgets won't show up in the "home" screen anymore; when pressing "Show", it displays walkmate in full mode, but not in background mode, and the calendar widget doesn't do anything at all now.

I've tried both the phone's own update service and SEUS. As I said though. New firmware doesn't get released for all regions at the same time so its just a matter of checking. I really hope the calendar widget works properly as I use it a lot.

I'd also prefer not having two broken widgets on my Elm.
Maybe it has something to do with having updated using the phone's Software Update menu in stead of SEUS (although I'd doubt that, because everything else works as good as or better than before the update), if not, I hope they release a fixed firmware soon.

I noticed this new firmware has the same version name as Hazel's current firmware. So they use the same firmware, but for some reason it took a lot longer for Elm's update to be released.

I've just upgraded on a (as far as I know) generic UK Elm using the Update Software menu. Non of the widgets seem to work properly (out of Facebook, Walkmate and Calendar) and so far I've noticed no other differences. Kind of annoying!

Still nothing for CID80 Generic UK Elm's

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum. I bought a new Elm couple of days back and am totally disappointed with it's camera and audio. It shows a visible blue yellowish lines in all the pictures. So I did a software update via phone's menu and it screwed up all the widgets in the home screen as you guys were discussing.

Will firmware update fix the camera's problem? I'm also not satisfied with the audio quality and supplied headphones. Should i return the phone and upgrade to Hazel? Any advice would be appreciated...

Posted by reeflotz
Hazel's camera also shows some blue yellowish lines in pictures in lowlight shots, even in firmware R7BA081, Elm and Hazel both have exactly the same camera, hopefully future firmware updetas will remove them thoroughly.

Funny thing: my elm didn't even have the facebook widget when I bought it, and it still doesn't have it after the update! And it gets even weirder: when I go to the official SE website and navigate to the walkmate info page and select Elm, it says walkmate is not supported by the phone!

Posted by degraaff
Okay... What is going on here now? http://www.sonyericsson.com/c[....]ones/overview/k970?cc=ae&lc=en
Apparently j10i2 elm has been renamed to K970?

Well, I decided to re-install the new firmware using SEUS, rather than using the phone's software update menu, and surprisingly it said there was new software. So I update, and when finished, it seems that it had reverted back to R7BA076. Not only that, because now my calendar and walkmate widgets are completely gone! It doesn't even show the little green triangle above 'Menu' in the home screen anymore. On top of that, all of my games and apps that were stored on the memory card have been erased, and the Grocery List and Checkbook apps have been reverted to the broken ones where it only says "undefined" for everything (I had purchased them earlier from PlayNow, to fix them).

Wait, hang on. I rebooted my Elm, and the calendar and walkmate widgets are back! AND AND AND, they work properly again. So if you updated to using the phone's software update menu and your widgets are broken, reverting to R7BA076 using SEUS is the way to fix the widgets. IF you are prepared to lose all of your downloaded apps and games on the memory card.

@ reeflotz : Oh ok.. I was planning to upgrade to hazel. My question is 'Will firmware updates fix the camera problems?'

@degraaff : Reverting back to the old firmware fixed the widget problems? What about those red blue lines in the camera?

It did fix the widgets yes, but those lines in pictures seemed less significant in the newer firmware, although I'm not sure. There are no official notes to be found about this new firmware...

Dear degraaff, would you be able to extract camdriver (throught SEPF2 for example) a send it here? I'm quite curious. Thanks.

hi Elm user here I'm going to update from R7BA076
i too dont have facebook or twitter or myspace on home screen just have calender and walk mate eco tho,
well that doesn't bother me as i text a lot so what i don't want is loosing my 4300 + sms's that i have on phone memory, I was just trying to see how many sms elm stores i'm still not getting the memory full dialog yet my previous phone was k790 with less then half of this phones capacity

What do you mean by "phone customization? The firmware version? As I wrote in post #13, I reverted back to the previous firmware, to wait untill they release an update with working widgets.

My current firmware is:
1231-1917
R7BA076

Hmm... I don't know, I don't think my Elm has any kind of firmware customization. I bought it in a general electronics store, without any kind of contract or subscription.

Posted by Rookwise
All phones have a customisation file mate. It determines the languages and region the phone is intended for.
Unfortunately a lot of people assume everyone knows everything about their phone which is not true.
To view the software version properly you need to access the service menu. This is done by quickly pressing right, star, left, left, star, left, star. Where left/right refers to the d pad and Star refers to the star button on the keypad (bottom left)

Not a UK model then. Also the phone is showing 1 error (1E0W). Basically this means that the install hasn't gone exactly right. It won't affect your phone in anyway but if you want to clear it. Reflash with seus making sure you've not got your memory card or sim card inserted. After finishing. Boot your phone up without the sim or memory card in. Once loaded turn the phone off and put your sim etc back in. Start the phone and set it up.

Are you sure that this error doesn't affect the functionality of my phone at all? Because if it doesn't, I'm not going to waste my time to re-install the firmware yet again, since SEUS wipes out all of my apps, including those that I bought on PlayNow...

Edit: SEUS never mentions anything about removing the sim and memory card before updating, why is it important?
[ This Message was edited by: degraaff on 2010-07-20 17:01 ]

Posted by Rookwise
No it doesn't affect the phone at all. Basically when it booted up after the update. Your phone would be configuring itself. While its doing this it also detects the sim card and tries to load from there. Its something thats occured on SE phones for well over 5 years now. A while ago SEUS used to say to remove the sim card but the newer versions don't mention it. Also. It has been know that memory cards have become corrupted if left in the phone while its being flashed. The card then needs formatting to work again. I still do it as a precaution to avoid any problems.

Don't know mate. Thats what it shows on the server. Have got access to all version numbers for J10i and J10i2 along with the CID versions. The one you've mentioned has only come on in the last day or so. Probably the Orange and 3 versions are the first on the server I have access to and more will follow later.

How come you've got access to that information? Or is it public on some website?

I've noticed one improvement (in my eyes). You can now turn Clear Voice and Noise Shield on and off from the Calls menu in Settings whereas before you could only do it whilst in a call.

I always get this

Anyone let me know what is R7CA061 cda's for me?

R7CA061 isn't available for SEUS, only FOTA.

Not so Degraaff, thx my Elm's camera problems, I had to re-flash FW. I tried it throught CDA change method via Omnius. I chose Western Europe and voilá - SEUS found R7CA061 and all works now (except the fact, that all is in English now and will have to wait for new FW in my region, including czech language and czech T9)

Looks like there is now new software released for Generic UK Elm's as of today. Not able to do mine yet as I've got to go out for a few hours but it will be done tonight.

r7ca061 now released for the following:

Server I'm looking at doesn't mention a Generic UK one yet but I've just done the update on my UK model Elm and it now does have R7CA061 installed. The server must have a bit of a delay.

So there you have it folks. New Elm firmware is slowly being released out there. Give it another week or so and it should be available for all supported regions

Ok. A word of warning. If you plan on updating DO a manual backup. After doing the update I now cannot restore my contacts, calendar or notes via the SE PC Suite. Comes up with error. Luckly I backed my contacts to the memory card but i've lost all my work appointments etc on the calendar which is going to take me ages to put back.

Does anyone know how to access the 'ams' folder in the phone memory? I want to take backups from my apps that I bought on PlayNow.

Posted by Rookwise
Would like to do that as well but not too bothered as they can be downloaded again from your download list. Finally got my Elm sorted. had to reflash it to get the phone to sync with the pc suite properly again. Can't see much improvement apart from whats already been mentioned here. Only other thing I've noticed is the Netfront web browser is slower than before. Have downloaded Opera Mini 4 again anyway. Not had chance to try the camera yet so can't comment on that.

Posted by groovepeppy
yep, Netfront are slower than before but very nice to have the download notification scrolling faster.
I do hope all long filenames are scrolling that fast on 's phone
uh and the blue-orange lines in the camera are still there too...

I really hope it's not a hardware issue...
Does the Hazel also have this problem?

Posted by wolvish
@ degraaff: Yes, Hazel also has the same problem, one user mentioned it in the beginning and I too really is hoping it's just a driver issue..

For the ams folder, Try to find a software called mobyexplorer, it really is a nice app for SE phones... If you can't find it, i'll upload it somewhere...
