I've never owned other phones than and was looking forward to the X-1 since the day started talking about it.
Sadly it was too expensive when it was launched here in Norway a while ago and I decided to wait for the price to drop a bit before getting myself one.
So, while waiting I was lucky enough to borrow one from my local mobile shop a couple of weeks ago to "test drive" it.
Full of expectations I opened the box and found this fantastic looking jewlery of a phone. Switched it on and started fiddeling around with it.
After a couple of days I found myself still fiddeling around with it. Not fiddeling as first of expectation and quriosity but fiddeling as in scratching my head!
Sorry !
Windows OS belongs on a PC not a tiny touch screen.
I'll buy myself a new P1 instead.
Symbian on mobile phones, Windows on PC's.

windows mobile 7 is about to change that(partly 6.5)

but windows mobile is not windows for pc, is not based on windows for pc and is designed from the ground up as a completely mobile operating system that is purely designed to make it easier for window literate people to get the feel of the os from the start (START being a pun of course! )

if it wasn't for iphone I would still be using WM as my main device as it is such a capable and well supported operating system in the community

I'll stick to Symbian.

Seconded. I find Symbian to be much more user friendly over WM.

After trying my friend's 5800, my obsession with android and WM had simply vanished. besides symbian is the only OS SE is capable of customizing the UI to its full potential and also i find symbian more flexible in terms of UI customization i.e. samsung can make omniaHD's s60 look like nokia didn't ever had its influence there. And since SE has great experience with touchscreens since their advent, symbian is the only OS that fits SE imo.

But Symbian, as you love it, is dead, isnt it?

Me, im more than happy with my choice of X1. However, i have never had a symbian phone.
I find Winmo hugely customizeable. SPB mobile shell 3, PointUI home 2, Winterface. I have all 3 as seperate panels. Love the choice.

Maybe one day ill have a look at s60, or whatever theyre gonna call it, and android too. Then ill be able to make an educated comparison.

Best of luck guys.
Stay happy.

Symbian UIQ might be dead, but Symbian is certainly not, theres S60, the SF and MOAP which is being used on Japanese phones which are all pretty much alive. i love symbian for it being a lite OS, it doesnt require too much power, you have Nokia S60s now running the low cost Freescale MXC300-30 single CPU which maxs out at 532mhz but is underclocked to 369mhz by Nokia, and yet are able to achieve VGA @30FPS video recording and playback as well as high quality graphics in Ngage without much hardcore graphics acceleration etc. . . .

I had UIQ devices for years,
loved them.

Now I have X1 on WM and I would never go back.

Actually I find WM as highly functional UI without oversized buttons and controls. A matter of taste? Maybe.
But I regard WM as totally functional OS with so many shortcuts and functions. Great..
In reverse I had iPhone in my hands... No thanks!

Same here. UIQ on P1 is more fun. When using WM I always feel like I am using another PC.

Just interesting - where is this "more fun" factor on UIQ?

Windows Mobile is NOT designed from the ground up for smartphones.

First & foremost - until WM7 - its still based off of WinCE (regardless of the version) hence the reason for cab files. Cab files have been used in every version of WM or PPC-PE or PocketPC the old PDA's of Compaq kingdom and even today. WinCE is very maleable but it still remains at the core - sure they call it .net based now but its a layer over wince.

yep, you're quite right. I had been reading a few articles earlier in the day about how WM7 is being built from the ground up and (notice the time of my post) got a bit confused in my reply. Thanks for the correction
