No w400, k400, C402..... none at all that I can think of.

What is SE hiding? What does it have against the number 4?

Hiya Greg, this has been mentioned before - its because the number '4' is considered unlucky by the Japanese, and therefore is not used.

'Four (四, formal writing: 肆, pinyin sė) is considered an unlucky number in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cultures because it sounds like the word "death" (死, pinyin sǐ). Due to that, many numbered product lines skip the "four": e.g. Sony Ericsson cell phones (there is no series beginning with a 4), Palm PDAs, the Leisure Suit Larry games, etc. Some buildings skip floor 4 or replace the number with the letter "F", particularly in heavily Asian areas. See tetraphobia and Numbers in Chinese culture.'

- Wikipedia (My lecturer's would slaughter me for using Wikipedia lol)

I was going to say the same, in fact looking at the SE global portfolio only one product has a 4 anywhere in its designation, and thats the V640

I also recall that Psion jumped from series 3 to series 5 and so did Palm

The problem is not with number 4, the problem that the products we have are not targeting Japan as they have thier own products !!

we will have then korea and china, the last already had thier own line up too ( ended with c ), I may consider china versions as with us as they use the same numbering and modeling system, but Japan, no way they even use thier own names and mobiles !!

so I guess we will not have a phone with 13 number on it's name

4 = death as someone already pointed out. From living in south east asia for a while I've noticed buildings. mostly Chinese ones, do not have a 14th floor, they have a 4th floor, but 14 is 13a as 13 is not an unlucky number. Here's a little list:

1 = everyday
2= easy
4 = die/death
8 = good/fortunate

Floor 14 would sound as "everyday die" to a Chinese and other other Asian persons. Hence 128, 118, 18, 8, etc, etc are considered very lucky.

W888c is the ideal phone there then?

w810 and k810 have to be best sellers in Japan

maybe SE jumped from 3 to 5 to differentiate low-end and mid-end.

Nah I think 11 in cantonese is everyday... and 114 would be "die everyday"

14 would be "must die" or "will die"

^^ According to my Chinese colleges it is how I wrote it is, but no use debating that here, im sure TS understand why now, besides there are like 100+ spoken dialects in China and Manderin is the most spoken in China and here in London's China Town they also speak more Manderin than Cantonese seems.
