is it just me or is Esato a lot quieter nowadays than it was a year back?

Seems to be a lot less excitment with SE and not a lot of action on the boards anymore.

thoughts?

With such a large forum as this, only the official stats (i.e. post/thread counts) can provide an answer, no other way of telling.
However, I know what you are getting at - my guess is that its simply a case of timing in terms of the release of new SE phones... or lack of release should I say. As the X1 draws closer, I have no doubt the buzz will return... ten fold!

it is just you.

I agree with captainsm, it does seem a bit quiet these days. But I do recall a similar period sometime last year and I think perhaps it's just a trend that there's a lull period each year.

for the first point, I agree that I am seeing less enthusiasm for SE products lately

for the second point, actually, the stats show that just 4 days ago we had the max ever members logged in at one time, however posting is slightly down on average but yeah, it goes in cycles and I guess we're in a very slight lul right now

Thanks masseur, at least now we have the official word on it.

I totally agree. The Enthusiasm for products have somewhat plateaued lately - its not the same vigor in every members hearts like when the W800/K750i debuted - that was a HUGE revolution. Since then we've seen few GREAT, & mostly good evolution of those phones & their focus on particular markets.

There seems to be more ppl waiting for Paris Official announcement & good reasoning to believe that the Xperia will STILL be technically relevant when released between September - December around the world. Many users waiting for Xperia seem to be previous WM users such as yourself Masseur.

I also tend to think more threads have become active instead of the usual "Official" discussion threads of products mentioned officially by or other manufacturers. More ppl visit provider, country related, or even feature/function/bugs & fixes threads than ever before. Also note that time zone will affect our perception of how busy the boards have been - I'm eastern so I tend to post in the last PM of EST while most threads are active in Greenwich mean time zone early mornings.

Oh yes Those were the days!

When the hype surrouning the K750i and W800i was matched by two truly great, butt-kicking phones and everyone liked being an SE owner... ahh yes.

Unfortunately the P-series spoiled the party by being crappier with each new model (P1 excepted), then the K850i hype reached such a frenzy that the actual phone couldn't keep up, followed by the S500/W580 button saga, then Nokia kicked SE's butt with 3.5mm headphone jacks everywhere and then the ugly but capable N-series headed by the all-conquering N95... even a few cameo appearances by the iPhone, LG chocolate/Prada and various Samsung phones not to mention Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices have distracted even the diehard SE fans.

Well I feel people are generally happy with thier A200 devices (K850i aside) and the new Flagship models - W980, G900, C902, P5i, and X1 should keep people interested and the boards busy for the rest of the year. I hope SE can live up to the hype surrounding thier phones or I guess the enthusiasm won't improve.

As a returning member from a couple of years back, I would say the boards are a hell of alot quieter. Not just the SE areas but overall. For example back in the day the uk users thread had a new post every 5 minutes in the evening now we are lucky if there is a new post every 5 days.

Why I dont know but I can only liken it to an old mans pub, X years ago there was a roaring trade but then customers died or got otherwise occupied but no-one came to fill thier place so the pub slowly declined into oblivion.

all forums change over time, the newbies will look back at this time and think of how great it was!!

Gone are the days, "My blah blah blah is bricked, how can I fix it... Maybe if sent out a couple of dodgy batches of phones the forum might pick up a bit!

Nope...
1 year waiting for p800 and the T610 debut... THOSE were the days.

The Clara thread was like a mania was happening, heady days indeed. Someone only had to post a spypic of just the joystick and that was enough to send people into hysteria

Although I think part of it is that devices which are truly groundbreaking will be rarer and rarer. The K750i's 2.0MP AF cam and expandable memory got a lot of people drooling back in what was it? 2004?

What would it take these days for a device to have the same effect? We all know there is almost no limit to memory capacity any more. Increases in megapixels aren't that exciting. Are there really many things you can do with 3.5G that you can't do with 3G? How snazzy can be a nice UI be? Mobile TV is on the horizon - hardly sends shivers down your spine.

HD recording? Maybe.

It certainly has changed, plus, has all the negativity ruined what was such a special place? Probably not. Like masseur says I think its a cyclic thing. Peaks and troughs so to speak.

I dunno if Esato is that much quieter, but it certainly is tonight/today. There must be something big on somewhere tonight/today because it seems like hardly anyone is posting anything.

Usually the garbage threads are alive around now. Did a whole group get banned or something?

I'm still having connection problems at home so I can't post as much as I'd like but it comes and goes.

@masseur

I was wondering, what is the most ever online on Esato?

i concur.

i remember the haydays and that was the P800 era.

back when the mobile market was developing still, prior to todays market saturation.

The P800 era was by far the best days for SE, so naturally it was the best time for a board dedicated to that company. With products like the P800 and T610 you had genuinely new, bleeding edge, innovative products that naturally excited people and got them talking. For a while now, SE have lost that edge - they aren't the technology leaders they once were, so of course many of the posters here have moved on to other, more innovative brands.

I've been using an HTC for the last 8 months, and have no interest in any of SE's new models, I'm only here out of general loyalty to the past. Sad but true.

yup...same story here....although i was around more during the p900 and subsequently the p910 era...i moved on to WM and more recently to an E71..in course of my quest for a better equipped business phone...and i must say...nokia seems to have put its 'bricky' days behind it...and provide a well rounded product in the business phone segment..something seems to be struggling with since the p990 days.... I still love the garbage section on esato though
