Why do I keep getting logged out of esato? I check the box that says keep me logged, have my cookies enabled(even cleared all cookies and cache and tried again) but i am getting logged out. Sometimes i log in, click new message, and it says enter username/password and sometimes when i log in, post couple of messages and close the browser, come back and see that again i'm logged out.

Firewall settings? Anti virus / spyware settings? Internet security suite settings? Windows defender? Date, time, year and timezone settings on the PC?
It's cookie based, it can't be anything else really because if it was server side, everybody would experience it

I've changed nothing on my PC since yesterday, and i'm experiencing this only on Esato.

Double check them anyway! They might have changed themselves via an update or such like...
EDIT:
Mine's still working fine so far

which browsers are you using?
DOUBLE EDIT:
Check the year in the date setting if you are using Vista. My sister's vista PC mysteriously set it's year to 2099 the other day as the result of an update causing all sorts of problems!

Posted by Cycovision
Oh well, much as I hate to give up I have to admit that I haven't got a flippin' clue what's causing it then

I just can't understand why it happens to some people and not others. Very strange...

does it all the time at work but not at home...
i wouldn't mind but work isn't even behind a firewall..
I've just come to accept that it doesn't work at work!

Mine's the opposite.
Work: IE 6 SP2 (Windows XP)
Home: Safari 3 (OSX 10.5.1)

change your B******t browser to Firefox

Posted by QVGA
i've been using firefox since its pre-release version

Posted by shanespencer
I might when it works properly on a Mac.

Actually, I used to use Firefox on Windows, and really found it to be a great browser. It's a shame it's not as good on the Mac - I miss adblock and flashblock

the only time I get logged out is when I am using mobile esato going to and from work on the train.
We have a couple of long tunnels and in there I lose the 3g signal so when I emerge from the tunnel and regain the signal I have to log in to Esato again
so what I am suggesting is that if your internet connection is intermittant then perhaps this is causing the logouts.
I have always used IE and never had a log out issue either on my own PC or office PC

Hi Masseur,
This is all from home using my Laptop and my WiFi is constant with no dropouts and my Broadband is rock solid to. I just live with it as it's not the end of the world just slightly annoying when i occasionally lose a long post.

I have this problem with Esato for 3 years now on my phone and whatever pc I use-so it's not you. I think it has to do with programing but no1 listened to me. Even on wap I had the same prob. No solution. What's worse,on my phone I post a long reply just to discover after I press 'send' that it asks for user/pass and deletes my answer too.
Posted by QVGA
Yes, so pleaseeee someone take note of this!
Posted by bbaev
I experience similarly the same.
If I use esato on one computer only (for instance, at work) - it keeps me logged in until I delete history and cookies, that is - permanently.
Whenever I go home and log in from my home PC, I need to re-log in the next day at work.
This doesn't happen with any other forum that I am a member to.
It's not a big deal, but may be annoying at times.
Cheers!

I can make posts, see peoples photo's in their post but as soon as I make a post and want to upload a photo with my post it asks me to log in and I cant. Its a real sad affair as it takes a dimension off my Esato experience

This kind of getting logged out suggests a problem with php session variables. These are like temporary cookies that reside on the server and they require your device to 'identify itself' every time you navigate to a new page. If the id does not exactly match from one page to another then the session ends and you get logged out.
So I still reckon that it could be a problem with the computer not reporting itself properly for some reason although messing about with cookie settings won't help. Which leaves:
1. Modem / router?
2. ISP?
3. Bug in the server's session variable handling?
AFAIK, php 4's session handling is pretty straightforward, there isn't that much to tweak in terms of coding however there may be some Apache or PHP engine settings that need looking at?

I get logged out everytime i close a tab on Firefox but when using opera i been logged in for couple of months,
Posted by Cycovision
And yet I use firefox and never get this problem

Very weird!
Posted by QVGA
i wont mind atleast one reply from someone in charge.
Posted by snugglez64
yae, i've havin this same problem since i registered.. i can't even edit my profile avatar, or anything else cos it always says im logged out and i have 2 enter my user everytime i post its really starting 2 annoy me now, i even
used different browses 2 see what could it be..
Posted by JC08
Well it happens to me when i browse using opera mini, but i think its an opera cookie prob
Posted by snugglez64
but it also happens in firefox and explorer 7 and safari 3 and netscape and opera (im using now)
Posted by Cycovision
Right, this isn't my problem of course and I'm sure that Laffen is looking into it. But this is related to my line of work as many of you know so it has intrigued me a little and I love trying to solve computer problems so I can't help sticking my nose in!
Just to be absolutely sure, can you all try adding http://esato.com to your browser's trusted sites? Just as a test. From what I've read, it could easily be a server-side PHP / MySQL problem so don't be surprised if it makes no difference whatsoever.
I'm just dying to find out what's causing it! Apparantly, some PHP / MySQL systems that share user login information do not always work very well together so if we can totally eliminate the cookie theory, that would be a big help.
As I said, I'm sure Laffen will sort this soon and he certainly doesn't need my input at all but if you wouldn't mind trying it anyway in the meantime, you'd certainly be helping me

It happens to me sometimes, the annoying thing is, when I sign in can tick remember me, the next day I have to sign in again
Posted by paul101
what about os? i'm on windows expee and i'm fine

vista has allot of bugs

have people tried changing there browser??

Posted by QVGA
AFAIK there is no trusted zone in Firefox
Posted by Cycovision
@QVGA
Yeah, forgot to mention that it only applies to IE but I think (I'm not sure) that firefox uses IE's trusted zones when running on windows. I'll test it out later

Posted by snugglez64
@paul101 - im using vista and im getting this problem.. i will tri IE with http://esato.com in the trusted sites..
Posted by laffen
You can give it a try now. I have done some changes, but are not sure if they will affect you. I have never had any trouble signing in. I am checking in IE, Firefox, Opera and Safari. No problem at all for me, and that makes it difficult to debug.
Posted by MWEB
I can tick the "remember me" box untill i'm blue in the face, i ALWAYS get logged out of Esato whenever i depart from it.
It matters not if i use any one of three browsers i use, i frequent 30 different forums, 18 hours per day, Esato is the ONLY one i have to sign back into when i revisit it.
It's a problem with this site, not anyone's browser settings or prefs IMO.
Posted by Cycovision
So is it still doing it now after Laffen's changes, mweb? I don't think it's browser settings either but I just don't get why it only happens on certain computers.

Yeah, Cyco, i just closed the browser, then reloaded it, all my forum tabs loaded up with me signed in, except for Esato, as per usual. i'm used to it after 3 years so i'm not stressing over it.

Posted by Cycovision
Absolutely bonkers! I wish one of my sheds would do it, then I could mess around and try to find out what's causing it. Yes, I am that sad

I still reckon it has to be something to do with modems / routers and PHP sessions...
Posted by Twometre
This is from what Ive been observing the past 48 hours. When I brouse from opera I dont get this problem but then as soon as I switch to my default browser I get it. I logged ing but when I want to make a reply it requires my username and password. I think the problem is browser related.
Posted by QVGA
well its not resolved for firefox and IE
Posted by mazi
I have same problem untill 2 week ago...
go to account>preferences> Store my username in a cookie for 1 year and then problem vanish!!
really working and never logout again...
Posted by jcwhite_uk
Over thae past few days I have the problem of being logged out when I close my browser down. It never used to do it and i havent changed any settings.
I have checked my Esato preferences and I have keep me signed in for 1 year ticked.
Posted by JC08
Well with me it happens while browsing with Opera mini, the strangest thing is it remembers my username but not the password... I never used to have this problem with v3.0 but now im experiencing it with v4.0
Posted by snugglez64
i'm still havin this issue no matter which browser i use and all my cookies are set and everything!
