Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman Phone review
Sony Ericsson W800i is the first phone from the Walkman series. By manufacturing this phone Sony Ericsson wanted to make the use of the mobile phones more popular than the use of MP3 players. So after its release, the mobile phones are looked from different perspective. Now the mobile phones aren’t just treated only like “phones” for making calls, taking pictures and etc… They can be our fully functional MP3 players, digital cameras, internet devices and etc…
Design:
W800 has standard bar design which is very similar to it’s previous variant, the K750. Even it is made only in one color it’s look is great. The smooth white and the orange look brilliant on this phone. It’s branded Walkman logo can be seen on the left side of the phone and the bottom of the front side. On the back side of the phone the Sony Ericsson logo can be seen and also the 2 mega pixel camera and it’s lens cover which protects it from damaging and scratching the lens, so it could stay perfectly protected of dust and dirt anytime and everywhere.
Main features:
The phone has great features as it is high end mobile phone. It’s 265k display opens wide spectrum of colors which make the look of your videos, pictures and photos taken with the camera look great. As the standard calls, the phone support many other types of communication too. It supports the world known SMS and MMS messaging. It has built in E-mail client and Internet Browser which open the web pages very fast so you can get the information you need in no time. The internet browsing is enabled thanks to its GPRS Class 10 which can be very easy configured for any operator which supports GPRS services by downloading the setup file via SMS and installing it in no time on your phone. Then your phone is ready to explore the world through the World Wide Web.
Connectivity:
Except the GPRS and other types of messaging, this phone also supports Bluetooth, infrared and cable file transfer which can be used to connect the phone to any computer and transfer data from and to the phone. The software which comes in the phone package is very useful for converting the music from the computer and transferring it to the phone very fast so you can put your own music connection in your phone in no time.
Memory:
The memory is the strong side of this phone. The built in memory is not that big for storing many songs in it and it sure will be small when you’ll start playing with the camera. But, here is the Memory Stick Duo slot which supports all types of Memory Stick Pro Duo up to 2 GB capacity to solve the memory problem. The main package when buying the phone includes a 512MB Memory Stick Pro Duo card which will be enough to put up to 125 songs in your phone and enjoy hours of your favorite music.
Camera:
The phone has built in high quality 2 mega pixel camera which has built in 2 LED flash which takes excellent pictures no matter the lighting conditions and if you are taking pictures at day or night and etc… The phone also has autofocus option which makes the pictures taken very close look sharp as the far distance photos look. The pictures has resolution of 1680x1224 pixels and look brilliant when transferred to PC so you can print them and make original photos as you can make with real camera. For better pictures at night, the Sony Ericsson original accessories like the Xenon Flash can be used which make the picture perfect and your phone is transformed to real digital camera. The phone can record medium quality videos. The only limitation when recording a video is the free memory remaining which means that you can record video as long as you like to. But the videos are not the same quality as the photos. They have much lower resolution 176x144 pixels which makes them unusable for advanced use or etc… but they are good enough to capture the best live moments when you do not have your video camera with you.
Other features:
The other features of the phone are:
- FM radio with RDS which captures the radio signals very good and gives an extra radio station sound quality and also shows the RDS information of the radio station you’re currently listening.
- The built in application like Photo DJ, Music DJ and Video DJ can be used to explore, manage and edit your own photos, ringtones and movies to make them look the way you like to look.
- There is also Java MIDP 2.0 support for almost all new Java applications so you can install Java applications and games you need and you like and your phone will be with you anytime you need fun. Actually, your phone will act as a playing console.
- The phone has built in organizer in the menu which includes several tools like: calendar, notes, tasks list, torch, calculator, alarm and etc… so you will never be late again with your new phone.
- The battery of this phone is excellent as it can last for up to 30 hours of playing music if the phone is turned off and up to 15 hours when the phone is turned on, so for normal user which uses the phone not very often it would last about 3 - days which is great for a phone with features like these.
So I decided to write this review after using my W800 for about 7 months. I’m very proud of SE and I love this phone because it has great features that suit my needs and it has never let me down.
