Press release

Intelligent control of calls and music through your watch
28 September 2006

Bluetooth™ Watch MBW-100 – Yet more innovation from Sony Ericsson to add extra dimensions to your mobile life

September 28 2006, London - Sony Ericsson today launches the innovative and stylish Bluetooth™ Watch MBW-100. The MBW-100 is the must-have mobile phone accessory for people who enjoy using the latest technology to stay connected to the world around them. It has sleek lines, classic looks, a distinguished presence and represents a first as a mainstream Bluetooth™ fashion accessory from a mobile phone supplier. Crafted from high quality stainless steel with a silver facia, the analogue watch will go on sale globally during Q4 of 2006 with a guideline retail price of approximately EUR 300.

Handle your calls with stylish discretion

Designed in partnership with watch industry leader Fossil, the MBW-100 allows a whole new way of looking at your mobile phone and you start by leaving your phone in your pocket. A stylish OLED display beneath the watch face displays who is calling when a call is incoming. A simple key press on the watch can reject the call, meaning you can remain in control of your calls in the utmost discretion.

Save time by keeping in greater control

Most of us cannot do without the indispensable tools for our busy lives – our wallet, our keys, our mobile phone and the watch on our wrist. By adding control of your calls and music to your watch, as well as notification of text messages and a clever out-of-range notification when you are separated from your phone, the MBW-100 helps you become more efficient in your daily communication. It also makes listening to music simpler by allowing you to play, pause and skip to the next track in your phone’s music player. So, leaving your phone in your pocket and letting your watch become more than just a time keeper, means control is always to hand.

I see this won't be compatible with the W950 P990i and M600 and a few others....its basically pairs through bluetooth,so theoretically it should work with any bluetooth enabled phone should it not?

Posted by borg_
I WANT ONE

Posted by axxxr
I hope this doesn't go down the route of the ROB-1

Posted by borg_
I hope not

"It also makes listening to music simpler by allowing you to play, pause and skip to the next track in your phone’s music player. So, leaving your phone in your pocket and letting your watch become more than just a time keeper, means control is always to hand"

Brilliant touch, excellent feature.
saves getting the P990i out of my pocket each time to change tracks lol

Posted by axxxr
Peterkay: Its not compatible with the P990i

Posted by PeterKay
damn....

just missed it "Sony Ericsson K610, K610i, K618, K790, K800, V630, W710, W850, Z610, Z710"

Shame really

Posted by PeterKay
Why won't it support the P990i?

Thats really weird, new release not supporting new products!!!

Posted by axxxr
I wish i knew...also does'nt support W950i strangely.

Posted by tonyitalian
damnnnn, no suport for 990 realllly sux!!!! i want this but its of no use if it doesnt support the 990............damn

Posted by masseur
I guess they simply haven't written the software neccessary to support it on the symbian operating system

Posted by PeterKay
but they may release something in the future, hopefully

Posted by masseur
if you remember the CAR-100, they had to release software that you installed in order to control the car on the P800 and P900 etc, so its not totally out of the question I suppose...

...but I'm guessing if they were going to do that, they already would have and so the new UIQ3 products would be on the supported list already

Posted by PeterKay
the CAR-100 is what i thought of first, but i guess you're right. They would've mentioned it in the list....

some more pics!

Does look very nice, tempted really tempted

oh my word.. i definately would get one of that if only it's available in Malaysia though. nice design imho.. pretty match with my working suit

The out of range alert is handy. You'll never leave your phone behind again...

That's really cool, I like it!

My only thought though, do I really *need* one? It is a really stylish watch, but I'm often forgetting to charge my phone - would I have to charge my watch once a week too?

Still tempted though...

lol mate.. you've got a big problem with that well, charging a watch will be a whole new thing for me sounds interesting

there's no g sign though.. but if it is.. man that's a heavy steel!

Posted by Marc_SE
I'm gonna try and pick one of these up when available. It's style is the same as the DKNY watch that I currently wear to work, so that's good.

Posted by aka Dus
Guys, as I understand it from a guy who knows a guy (kinda thing) the only reason most of the SE handsets aren't compatible is that it doesn't support track skipping in the music player (a bit like the remote control in the stereo headphones SE do.)

However, maybe there is also an issue with Caller ID from some phones - you know the way that isn't suported when using the P990 etc with the car kit display SE have.

It is heavy. Too big for my girlie wrists I think.....

Posted by darky
I wouldn't mind wearing that, the design is actually nice, but the lack of support T_T

give it one month, unknown factories in China will be making tons of compatible watches, some that last more than a week

Posted by Andy_P
ill prolly buy one anyway, but 187g is immense.

imagine strapping 2xp990's to ur wrist

Fossil have also announced their version today, in two different styles. I presume it has the same functionality. SRP £149.99 (UK) and available from:
http://www.widget.co.uk/asp/product.asp?recorprod=1&product=730&cat=126&ph=&keywords=&recor=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=

I am not associated with Widget, but we received their press release today.

WOOWW

Posted by 02
Any ideas if it would sync with a Bluetooth headphones?? So u would have to use the phone at all... this will be great while driving!! Contact calling will be on ur wrist and answering with ur headphones... cool...

Posted by tranced
i think that this watch is the best thing among the others cellphones released the other day. but too bad that only supports a few SE phones......

Posted by haynesycop

I want one of these, please tell me they will do a ladies version so i don't have to wear a chunky mans watch lol.

Posted by Str1ker
Do you think they'd be able to make one with a little microphone and speaker on it, so that you'd be able to take the phone call on the watch, I'd buy one of those

As far as i know there is no ladies version....looks like your stuck with the mans one for now!

Posted by Poison2061
The watch above that jmcomms linked to looks much nicer than the SE one. Doesn't say anything about compatibility so I presume it works with all phones?

It doesn't actually say that you can answer calls using the watch, just a bluetooth headset. That's the feature I'd want the most. I'm sure for most people aren't going to mind taking their phone out of their pocket or don't mind having to press the button on your headset because if you're going to answer it you'd do that anyway, but when driving a bike it's not that easy.

Need more information.

Out of range warning on the Sony ericsson one was a brilliant idea, I'd have at least 2 more phones if I had that before.

Do you have to charge these watches up? Presumably the bluetooth takes up quite a bit of battery life.

It might not be allowed on a plane because it uses radio waves to talk to the phone and i havent seen any mention of turning it off.
