Hi ! I am using a pre activated gprs sim which works fine on models like the 7250, samsung etc. But when i tried it on a 6600, i just couldnt configure it. I mean, i didnt find any parameters like settings name, gprs access point, bearer settings etc...will someone please advice how to set up the 6600

Posted by indiannawaf
The sim is activated on gprs right? But for GPRS to work you need to have the correct settings for the phone which we get when activating GPRS here in India. So if we want to use the same sim on another cell we just request our service provider for the setting for the particular phone.

Sorry if this doesnt answer your problem.
Oops just found out you are in India too!!!

I got the settings from airtel. The same stuff for mobile office, but it doesnt work on the 6600. It connects, that is, the gprs connect symbol shows, but the page does not load up. Any suggestions?

I have Orange. When i activated Gprs. I got an sms saying my GPRS will be activated in 72 hours. I simply restarted my phone and it started working right away. Try it.

come on people, please keep this in one thread. repeated question here, please make your mind up!

Ok..i will be more specific. These r the settings provided by the operator: settings name- Mobile Office.
Home page- http://www.google.com
Session mode -permanent.
Data bearer- GPRS
Bearer settings-
GPRS access point-Airtelgprs.com
IP address:202.56.231.117
Login type-normal
User name- (my phone no)
Password-xxxx

but the phone has the following options-
access point

Data bearer

access point name

advanced settings-
phone ip address
primary name server
second name server
proxy serv. address
proxy port no.

hope you guys can help on this.

Blue, have you tried an app called Settings Wizard? It automatically configures your S60 phone, even allows you to select which network, etc... Will send you the link.

Posted by BlueQuill
Tried that too mate, doesnt work. It came up with settings which were way too old. When i manually entered the settings, the phone got connected to the gprs network but no page was loaded ie 0kb. On typing in a url , it tries to connect but finally comes up with the message no gateway reply.

i am so confused!

Posted by Kryptik
Blue, it's a fairly long shot, but try entering 0.0.0.0 for both Primary and Secondary Name Servers; enter None for Proxy Server Address, and enter 0 for Proxy Port Number. It's really all i can think of right now, hope it helps or gets you closer to the solution, bhai

Posted by BlueQuill
Ok mate....i will try that too....let me also add that though airtel is the largest gsm provider in india, its customer care is absolutely useless..those guys just seem to know nothing !! x:

@quill, all those settings you wrote are correct. I have the same settings and it works perfectly for me. I think its might be a local problem.

Posted by BlueQuill
How come its working on one phone with the same settings and not on the other ?? :con:

On the 6600 the 'g' symbol shows..... On trying to connect, it connects the g in a square appears but it stays like that ! The home page just refuses to load up and it says 0kb.

On trying with some other web address for eg. wap.esato.com , after a couple of seconds it says 'service error : gateway not replying' .

airtel cc says the same settings should work. Maybe is it a smartphone....will there be something different... ??

Posted by whizkidd
@quill, the Airtel folks are correct.
The settings are allright.
The Ngage is a smartphone too and the same settings work perfectly here.
Anyway, i have used the same settings on a 6600 and it works perfectly too.

Now tell me what browser are you using to connect to the web?

Posted by BlueQuill
I am trying to connect through the phones browser ...ie am trying to connect wirelessly, through wap.

Posted by whizkidd
Download opera or netfront browser and try again.
I seriously doubt its a browser problem rather than a connection one...

Posted by BlueQuill
Tried it with opera web browser too..no success either...
Can you tell me what you r using as the phone ip address ? Also the primary server, the secondry server, proxy address and proxy port no ??

All those fields are left blank by me......

Posted by BlueQuill
I set the settings of airtel live on my phone, and it worked. That is, i could connect to airtel wap site . It had the following settings apart from the usual stuff- access point - airtelfun.com

phone ip- automatic

primary name server -0.0.0.0

secondary name server - 0.0.0.0

proxy server address- 100.1.200.99

proxy port-8080

in the 7250 that i have, the settings for airtel live are the same except for the fact there is no entry like primary name server, secondary name server, proxy server address or proxy port. It has one field called ip which had the entry 100.1.200.99...

any clues??

HI... i searched thorugh the net and could figure out one thing...to access airtel mobile office through the 6600 or similar phones , one needs to have two more parameters- proxy server address, and port no.

If someone could just provide it...airtel cc is at a complete loss at this too...someone reading this thread has mobile office on his 6600??...pls help !!

Posted by mrao
One way to get it workin for sure....is to get rid of the blokia

Where did you get that from?
I am cent % sure that a proxy or its port is not necessary.
I HAVE USED THE 6600 WITH THE SAME SATTINGS AS YOU CURRENTLY HAVE.
The airtel folks can't provide proxy and stuff as its out of their provisions.
Did you try netfront btw?

Posted by BlueQuill
Holy shit !! Holy cow !! Oh my God !! It works ! It works ! It finally works ! Thanks a lot mate, whiz. Great help. I should have taken your advice long ago. I am highly obliged. Thanks once again.

Posted by whizkidd
Netfront worked?

Posted by BlueQuill
No... Not yet..but tried opera..its working fine and also the phone's inbuilt browser....Any more tips and suggestions?

Posted by BlueQuill
Cant seem to be able to setup g mail on the phone. I tried with the inbuilt setup wizard but it doesnt work. Any suggestions?

Posted by Kryptik
I've got my settings as- OUTGOING:smtp.gmail.com INCOMING:pop.gmail.com MAILBOX TYPE: pop3 All other settings i've turned off except for APOP SECURE LOGIN which i've set to ON. Hope this helps...
