I had this problem once with a third party cable I bought from eBay.
Often they're not what they claim to be and the proper

Is yours an original

If its the latter you may be out of luck...

Ah, well many third-party USB data cables are based on the Prolific chipset.
Have a look on the following site to see if there's any suitable drivers.

You may need to have a look in the USB properties (not exactly sure where it is or what is called in Windows - I use a Mac) to see what Windows identifies the cable as...

just says its a dcu 11 cable. im not sure what one to click on. im on xp btw

bump. cant find it. i really need it

On that site go to:
Download > USB 1.1 Full-Speed Cable Controllers > PL-2303 USB to Serial Bridge Controller > Drivers for Windows (pop-up) > And try that driver
That's the one for most generic USB data cables as most are based on the Prolific PL-2303 chipset.
I've been told the Mac drivers work ok, but as I don't have Windows I've no idea about the Windows ones.

i found this on the net:

After a long search on the sonyericsson.com/support site I found:
How to install USB driver
1) Insert the USB CD
2) Connect the USB cable into the USB port on the PC
" The add new Hardware wizard will automatically search for the floppies and CD
3) Select CD > HAVE DISK > USB CD
4) Select NEXT > FINISH
5) Select START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > HARDWARE > DEVICE MANAGER
6) The DCU-10/11 USB cable can be found under PORTS with com port number shown
7) Go back again to the CONTROL PANEL > SETTINGS > PHONE MONITOR
8 ) Select COM PORTS and then Enable the port that the USB driver is installed on.
The point is that while installing the cable is very much automatic, I had to set up points 7 and 8 manually.
A) Find the port number (See point 6 above)
B) In Control Panel (Xp view) Choose " Printers and Other Hardware "
C) Then choose " Alternatives for Phone Monitor "
D) One option in the wizard that starts up is Port status. Choose Activate the Port found in point 6 above.
Finally start up synchronisation program and (hopefully) it will find the phone.

PS: You need to download separate programs for 1 - synchronisation, 2 - image editing and downloading from PC to phone and 3 - MMS creation and downloading from PC to phone
