I knew i shouldn't have bought it: a SE f500i. but it came cheap and i did not know it has no bluetooth. i was syncronizing via Ir and it worked well, untill my laptop crashed beyond any hope and i bought another one. i won't bother you with details but the new laptop (cheap) turnes out it has no IR. So i was stuck, and bought a USB cable from ebay (very cheap). It's a no-name aftermarker, but it appeares it was made by the people who run www.usbdatacable.com and it is branded as designed for k700/K500.

Anyway, i downloaded drivers from SE.com, i downloaded SE communication suite, i already had the phone monitore, the sync station and the file manager. I did the whole port thing, setting the cable to port 4 and making sure in hone monitore it's acticated. it still doesn't work. the battery charges though from the usb cable.

i've also downloaded the FMA but it still won't connect.

here's more info:
- XP SP2
- in device manager the cable is described as "USB data cable" (read in some other threads that isshould say prolific something, but it doesn't)
- i tried checking the cable with the hyperterminal in accessories over COM4, but it tells me telephony is in use by some other application or something strange like that.

HELP.

thanks,
a sucker

I think that may be your problem mate... try getting a genuine SE DCU-11 USB cable... i personally am not too fond of 'very cheap' substitutes...
Sony all the way

I don't like the fact that the cable charges the phone.. which means it might be just a charging cable.

You can buy a USB-IR adapter for cheap and can be used on your laptop or PC.
