O2 charging for gprs |

My wife is on O2 pay and go, a few days ago she received a text from o2 saying they would be charging for o2 active from the 1st august (today). This morning, sure enough, when using wap it's charging. I have 2 o2 contract sims I use, will contract users be getting charged also as of today? I've not received any texts on either number from o2 saying otherwise, perhaps its only on prepay? Also I generally use the o2 web gprs connection, does anyone know if this would also be charged? Thanks in advance.

Thats absolute rubbish, how do yov think i am posting this? I'm on my O2 sim i've never topped up and mines still fully free. Hope all of you aren't getting charged though.

I can assure you this is so on my wifes pay and go sim, yesterday it was free today it's not, and they sent a text to say it would be charged from today. I'm not speaking absolute rubbish as you so kindly put it, I'm merely stating the facts and was enquiring as to whether this would also be the case for contract users. I'm pleased for you that yours is still free, however I don't think it warranted a reply that I'm talking rubbish. Obviously it doesn't affect you so there was no need for you to reply.

Your very defensive this morning i was just saying that my GPRS is still free and have checked with another 25+ people on O2 and none of them have had this so called text message and all of them still have FREE GPRS so i'm a little confused. No need for you to reply with such a bad attitude, whats up did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning

Strangely enough, I got out of the same side of bed as I always do, I'm defensive, look at your username!  Anyway, if you look again at the post I "defensively" replied to, it appears you assumed I knew you were connecting with an o2 pay and go sim. I don't know what network your on, so I didn't assume, speaking of which, it's great you're still getting free gprs with your pay and go sim, but you can't assume that everyone still is. I'm sure o2 haven't just singled my wife out. Still, no hard feelings mate, wasn't having a go at you, just trying to present the facts I have, and hopefully find out if contract users like myself are going to be charged or not. This would be bad news for me, as I use my free gprs and either my K700 or 9500 as bluetooth modems, and the joy of the o2 mobile web connection available to contract users is that it supports cookies as you don't use a fixed IP address and therefore can go on secure site for online shopping and banking etc... Thanks for looking in any how.
PS @ JCwhite_uk Cheers mate, at least you can see my point.

@jc i too am being charged for gprs on o2online pay go but i didn't receive any texts. Btw popped my tesco sim in with ZERO Credit and i'm able to use gprs for now at least. Just been on another forum and it's a hot topic at the mo. Tony

Cheers Tony, didn't think she'd be a one off case. Do you know on the other forum if there are any contract users on there and if they know whether or not they are getting charged for gprs?

Sorry if anyone took my posts the wrong way and i guess i can see where i was in the wrong, looking into this there is no word on the O2 website about any changes so if things stay as they are then you should still be getting free GPRS.
And in accordence to your wife's GPRS as long as she has the correct proxy and port number set up there is no reason not to continue getting free GPRS because i know 100% that they are still working as of today.
Maybe one day O2 will stop the port from public use but until then just check what her settings are and there should be no problems.

The guys on the other forum usin o2 contract have said they'll wait for their bill to be processed or check their bill online as of yet no one knows. I called o2 data support 6 months ago and he told me they were aware of the free gprs loophole and were working on a fix he also said we would not be back charged but charged from the time of the fix thank god

No probs Chris. This is the thing I don't get, she still has her IP and proxy set just how they were when it was free (IP 193.113.200.195 proxy port 8080). Strange how they're charging some and not others. Her sim was from an o2 shop but its the "online" sim with 300 free texts a month. Don't know if the fact that it's from an o2 shop and not from the online shop if that would make any difference. Can't see that it would to be honest as it's still an online 300 text sim.

When MTN in S.Africa ended their free gprs earlier this year there was much the same confusion as you're experiencing. Take it in stride, guys. We subsequently got charged an arm and a leg, but their rate is now the lowest available over here ;o)

It gets more confusing, I've read on another forum that other people received the text about o2 charging for o2 active, but some reckon its only for using o2 active pages and not other wapsites?!

I got a text a few days ago saying that O2 are going to lower the cost of browsing O2 active to 1p. I presume this meant after the free 1MB had been used. I havent checked to see if the Proxy setting 8080 was now being charged for. |

Sadly this seems to be typical of o2 keeping customers very much in the dark. I've checked the online usage of 1 of my contracts and it hasn't been updated since 28 july! Typical! O2 need to get there act together and supply customers with coherent information. |
