Weird ask: dial-up MODEM noise, mp3 |
brap Joined: Jul 28, 2005 Posts: 13 PM |
Hi.
People using long, overtly loud mp3 ringtones usually annoy the hell out of me -- "Look, tis is my fave 'choon!". So I want to go to the other extreme. Basically, I want an mp3 clip of a MODEM -- either in data-transmit, or more preferably handshake mode, to use as my ahem, "ringtone".
I don't have access to a MODEM with speaker, and Google throws up nothing but umpteen ways to reduce this noise... I want it celebrated!
Any help, whether info on how to record my own (Powerbook) MODEM noise, or a location with snips, would be good. Or maybe you have a more offensive idea? ;)

A friend of mine has "Mail mother f*****", but that's a bit obvious. There are some cool samples like this 'un, but it's still too tame...
May have to dial up, then record progress through the phone speaker. Ooh-er.

I can't remember which, but at the end of one of the lords of acid songs (Cybers-omethingarather) theres a modem connect (28.8 if I remember rightly...) which if you can find you could easily rip

Hehe, well, I found some somewhat nasty stuff around. I've heard it sampled in a couple of songs, too -- when you listen to industrial/cyber nonsense occasionally, it's the done thing (if slightly cliché).
Thanks Procter - you have mail :)
Oh, and the smooth sailing under OS X came to an abrupt end... sigh.
