I know there a lot of threads about this but can anyone explain to me simply what Firmware is and what benefits it has to me?

the firmware is the "operating system" of the phone, and a phone won't work without it

Firmware is the software your phone runs. Its a little like Windows for your pc.
Every so often new firmware is released, a little like Windows Update. You apply the new software and it updates your phone and removes bugs.
Firmware updates can:
- fix bugs
- improve camera quality
- improve menu speed
- make games run faster
- make images display quicker
- improve sound volume and quality
- and more..

But lets not forget that firmware can also make certain features like camera quality worse also and not just better, that is why some firmwares are more popular than others because they all have special extras that are better than other versions of firmware.

Yes, thank you defensive, i didnt forget that, however the general understanding is that firmware updates are there to improve the phone.
Dont confuse waldo by making it sound like if he updates his phone he'll kill it.

I confused myself when i re-read that back never mind Waldo
But yes most firmwares are there to improve the phone as a whole so they are worthwhile, and as etaab mentioned they are available on the SE website. The instructions are nice and simple to follow online as well - taking from experience on this one. So scared the first time i updated my K750i from the original firmware but am so glad i did it.

Ive looked at the SE for my k700i. what exactly am i looking for. i couldnt see firmware???

DO NOT UPDATE THE K700I AT THIS TIME.
The firmware on their server is CORRUPT. Me and my friend both have K700i's, so we decided to update them. We were using completely different computers. So, we did the update. Now, both our phones are sitting here with white screens  The freakin recovery mode doesnt work either! |

same happened to my K700 using SEUS, had to fix it using Davinci instead
Did a recover and a flash and everything is fine.

Hi, I have some questions about firmware too. Do u guys know the defferences between red and blown firmware?
what is CID 36 or what ever other CID number... I'm not sure about these.... Thanks for your help.... |
