well...
ive just bought a new car and its got a silly antenna on the windscreen, so after further inspection it turns out its a fully fitted car thing for a mobile phone (it cuts out the radio when the phone rings and puts the conversation over loudspeakers)
the car ive got is an audi and im 99% sure this fitted kit is a nokia but i cant be 100% as its missing the cradle (but has everything else fitted and the wire for the cradle is there)
its similar to this...
what i want to know is what i can do with it? can i add a different cradle to it and hook it all up? ive got a p910i is there anything i could link into this set up? or does the p910 have a similar type set up as it seems pretty cool but the main reason i want it is its already fitted (really professionally too - no wires showing or anythin) |

Well, a call to a fitment centre should answer your query. I'd assume it can be done, since the wiring/cabling isn't vastly different

Why ask this kind of question here? Why not go to a SE or Nokia center to ask? While the cables might be different, the physical connections and data exchange connectors are surly different.
Can you exchange Audi parts with Ferrari parts even though they are still cars?

Are You Nuts, You cant even Mix and Match Sony Ericsson Carkits, I have a Sony Ericsson Carkit which does all of the current Sony Ericsson Phones, except the K750, D750 and the W800. I thought I could just change the cradle, but No! I have to get a new full car kit installed. I'm thinking of goin for a bluetooth one to future proof myself.
Good Luck Anyway

Yet another friendly welcome to Esato from the last two posters
Unfortunately, they're absolutely correct though. It's highly unlikely that your kit could be made to work with an SE phone

Yeah sorry for being so snappy, its just that this new K750i carkit has caused me a lot of hassle

@j600:
Doubtful that any non carkit would work on the same wiring, but if you could find out details on the wiring of the carkit and the system cables you may be able to fudge something. But it's more than likely not worth the effort.
@dg:
The connector change isn't just a change in connector, its a change in technology. Thats why your old carkit doesn't work. Ever tried to plug a USB keyboard into a PS/2 (the roundy ones) on the back of your PC? It's the same principal. (And yes while there's USB adaptors, PC's have a great more facilities to handle that sort of thing)
is a good way to think about future proofing though

this is a SE forum which i why i posted here! If the connect is a standard jack plug or phone connection then i thought there may be a way of hooking it up, also alot of these things come from the same components are rebranded later so its not such a crazy question as you make out.
finally, YOU CAN exchange audi parts with ferrari parts depending on what they are. i could easily stick ferrari parts on my audi if i modded it. |

Exactly. Modify it. What happens if you "mod" something and lo and behold your phone gets screwed up. You will be standing in line complaining that SE makes crap phones, is crap, and top it off by wanting your money back. In case you did not know, SE and Nokia are like apples and oranges. They are still fruit but they are not the same. Is it really that hard to understand? Have you looked at the connector to the k750i. It is an SE phone, but the previous SE accessories no longer work with it. Should we all go and modify our previous accessories? Anyway, do what ever.

I digress, you are not the first here to ask this sort of question. There have been MANY more that have done worse things to their phones and then blamed it on SE and the advice posted by people here. So, seeing another post such as yours is more icing for the cake. Second, the time it takes to post a question as such could be spent on the phone to SE or a quick (maybe not so quick) ride down to the SE Svc Ctr and ask them.
Finally, say what you want, but I will not stoop to your name calling level. At least I have enough common sense not to waste everyone's time with such a juvenile question.
