do you think SE would come out with such a unit?
A lot may have noticed that these add-on cams (like the MCA series) or built-in DCs (like n7650 or the coming P800) dont really offer the kind of picture quality you may have gotten used to using "regular" DCs.
With the P800 already having various connectivity options (BT, IR, Memory stick), wouldn't it be nice to just leave the camera out?
It's fancy to have a camera , but if the picture sucks ... well, i'd rather use a real one.
and I would like to add this: maybe instead of the duo memory stick, they could've place an SD or a CF slot instead (more mature storage technology).

I prefer the Memstick option over CF/SD... If SE comes out with a P800 w/o the camera, it SHOULD not be over 17mm thick. The height and width are fine... I just find the P800 too damn thick.
If removing the camera will slim it down... it would be a perfect phone/PDA! (Then they can market it with a Sony Cybershot with BT or something) |

We've got the O2 XDA, its a pocket PC with a built in mobile but it is very costly, however the GPRS is fast.
It very slim compared to the 7650 and P800 but it is still a bit large. |

@jplacson, why would you want to retain the mem stick? The CF form factor is already used in many accessories, not just for storage. And SD is already quite popular, making the price more affordable.

It's a Sony (snicker), don't expect it to have a CF slot. I personally would prefer CF...
But what I'd really like to have is a phone, digicam, and PDA SEAMLESSLY integrated via bluetooth. For example if I wanted to send a picture I should be able to do it from the camera itself, without having to upload it to the phone first and all that.
I'd imagine the phone to be T600-sized, the camera something like the DSC-U10, and the PDA a slightly narrower Palm m515.
At any rate the integration of a camera doesn't appeal to me, unless of course they can slim it down and take the picture quality up. I hope the P800's successor can have picture quality like that of the new Casio Exilim which has demonstrated that fairly decent quality can be achieved with such a thin design...

@GOwin, cuz a 128MB Memstick (not the Duo yet) is cheaper... less than $100.
Re: Casio Exilim, remember that it's slim cuz it's nothing more than a camera. I just want the P800 slimmer... 20mm is passable, but considering it's other measurements, I'd say 17mm would make it VERY nice... besides, Sony already had a Clie that was 1/2" thick... I don't think the phone function would take up that much more space. |

WE ALL KNOW THAT SE IS THE CATALYST ON MOBILE PHONE Technology, in my point, this p800 is a statement product, the suggestion to exclude the dc on p800 may be a good idea, it may capture a thin slce of the market, but its a tough market out there,. maybe if they can dd more pixels on the dc

that's true, SonyClie has integrated a camera in there, and it didnt make it that thick. so we really expected the P800 to be just around that size. and yes.... we shouldn't expect any Sony product to use any other media format except their own format which is MemoryStick. Stubborn din ang mga designers dyan eh. but yes i have to complain... why did Sony created another media... MemoryStick Duo! i could have tolerated this Memory Stick thing, but having another format... ang dami na eh! CompactFlash, MultiMediaCard, etc...
just having the ZipDisk-100 not run the ZipDisk-250 is a pain in the arse already. |

re flash memory for the P800
if price is the issue, then the CF format would be the cheapest of all. If it's the form factor, MMC is still the smallest.
but the CF is more flexible, in the sense that it's not just a format for removable media, a lot of other accessories are in the CF format.
the use of the mem stick is just a sony thing
i still want a model like the P800 without the cam! the mem stick will be acceptable, but a CF is preferred. |

jplacson, no way Memory Stick is cheaper, it's almost twice as expensive as CompactFlash!
It's \\ NOT /// !!! Look at it sideways ! |
