I am going to souind like a right idiot here, but never mind.
I have an Icon on my screen that I have not seen before, I have looked at the SE online manual and I can't see it, and I was wondering what it meant.
I have a V800, and it is (on the inner screen) on the top row and to the right of the 3G icon. The icon is a little handset with red cross at its top right.
I have signal, and the phone is not on mute, etc.
Any ideas?
Cheers

No, doesn't appear to be that. The icon looks like this:
Just to the right of the 3G icon, and to the left of the non-normal profile icon.

Just restarted my phone, and no it is doing the "Emergency Calls Only" thing. I usually restart it agina and thiat fixes it, but it seems to be stuck on that at the moment. A buy I work with has the same phone, also on vodafone, and is not currently having issues! |

And now it is coming up with - "No access to network" - I think that might have been what the icon was trying to tell me!

Whenever your network totally fails, that icon appears.

ok, it gets weirder - before the 3G icon appears, I can make calls. As soon as the 3G icon appears, then the crossed phone icon also appears and I can no longet make calls!
Spoke to vodafone and they suggested changing the sim with someone else, but when I put my SIM in their phone, the same happens! They also confirmed that there are no blocks on my account, etc.
Off to phone them again to see if they have anymore pearls of wisdom... |

Goto select network in the Mobile networks menu and select the Vodafone 3g option. See what that does.

In the mobile networks menu, there are two vodafone networks - both are just called vodafone (neither is called vodafone 3G).
I get the same with both networks. |

Where did you purchase the handset? it sounds like the phone has been barred(black listed). Was it lost or stolen, or did you buy it from a magazine or from ebay? If so theres nothing you can do. It wont work in your county.

I bought it online from Vodafone UK.
I went into one of their shops, they have swapped the SIM and all appears ok again... |

Go in to your network search, set it on manual search and and select a network you are not permitted to use, ie Virgin or any other network.
Leave it there and the phone will go gack to Voda after a few seconds.
That way you "force" the phone to pick up the right signals.
If that doesn't do the trick you better take it back to the shop.
(Remember to bring the reciet!)

Already changed at a Vodafone shop, and now works ok.
Thanks for the help! |

I lied it is back again - so
1) I have a new SIM now (not SIM that is at fault?)
2) Old SIM could also stop someone else's phone from working (maybe not the phone that is at fault?)
So what is it? Why does my phone work until the 3G symbol appears on the screen? As soon as it does, I have an expensive brick to carry around!
