Hi everyone,

Could you help a newbie out?

I have an Ericsson T68i mobile. I have sound recordings on my mobile that are just under 700kb in size and would want to transfer this data and pictures and other sound files to my computer as and when I need to. What would be best, Infra red or Bluetooth? Ideally I would be connecting the devices to my USB ports as cheaply as pos!

So basically, what are the advantages/disad...

Also, I heard that bluetooth devices have some teathing problems when it comes to data transfer, is this true?

Thanks, Ben.

Im not sure but i think the best way to try would be a usb irda adaptor, i have a usb bluetooth dongle and it does restrict the files you can send from phone to pc. However i've heard that the anycom software will allow file transfers. Infra red definately work because support is built into windows, bluetooth will be but not until sometime next year. I dont think cables will work because you cannot tell the phone to send a file over the cable. no software exists to fetch a file on the phone from the pc end

Is there a limit too the length you can post from the phone? Coz it wouldn't let me enter any more.
Ok so if you want to be able to send files from phone to pc then at the moment it must be infra red or bluetooth but not with the Widcomm BTW software. Widcomm software comes with Tecom, TDK, Csr, MSI and many others.

The cheapest and easiest way is, use infrared adaptor.

And you don't need any sw to transfer (sound recording, themes, pic, animated screensaver and ringtones) from t68i to pc.
But you need the sw in the other way.

Just send the stuffs via irda from your phone, windows o/s will capture/received the files.

Thanks guys, I think I may be safer with the infra red for now. what about the one above? It looked ok till you scroll down to the phones it supports, it only had the t68 not t68i.

Do you guys have any links to other good hardware sites cos i could do with some being bookmarked!

Cheers.

Basically t68 and t68i are the same hardware, only different in firmware.
You can upgrade from t68 to t68i only by flash the firmware (this should be done only by SE service center).

Anykind of infrared adaptor can be used, generic or well-known brand. Just choose the cheapest.

Don't worry be happy!!!

I'm just using the IR from my notebook. Much faster and no need of any cables or IR adapter cables to transfer.

Even using my T68LE (converted T68i bue face cover, LIMITED EDITION, hehehehehe!) as a dial-up modem for downloading emails.

If you have a notebook PC with IrDA then that should work. Otherwise, a generic low-cost IrDA will do. Try the MA-620 IrDA adaptor. I use it and works wonders.

Cheers.

Jamba,

How much is the MCA-620 IR adapter? Any store in Greenhills that sells that?

Provided the ir port is working properly in windows you just activate the infra red on the phone an point it at the laptop. Windows will make a noise, a system tray icon will appear and a desktop icon is created which allows you to send files from windows.
